Who had the red sided 22 classic with the supercharged 454 on Lake George?

I found this one for sale by it's new owner and was wondering it's history.

I'm looking at it this morning, apparently it is an 80+ MPH boat, surely it's known to someone on here.

the 16 and 18 are gone, and i'm in the market...

how afraid of a 1993 cone drive OMC King Cobra should I be? It's sitting behind a B&M supercharged 454 that was professionally installed 240 hrs ago.

I'm no expert but everything I have heard about the KC, especially after 1990, is it's TOUGH! I'd feel more comfortable with that drive hanging off the back than I would a Bravo!

It definately looks beefy...the the engine is claimed to put out 510hp with 4-5 pounds of boost, and was dialed in by an off-shore race shop. It pulled 81 on GPS w/o playing the trim or tabs. From what I've read the KC got way better in 93, but i've still read about cone failures.

I'm sure one of the experts will chime in and give specifics. Phil(MOP) knows a ton about drives as well as several other members. Like I said, I would rather have that KC than a Bravo!

An OMC guy told me the King Cobra (w/cone clutch) was good for 650HP.

The Original owner of me 18 had installed three clutches (<133hrs). He took the 18/454/King to Lake Michigan. :eek!:

I put over 900 hours (about 25% offshore) without replacing the clutch, and as far as I know, the clutch that was replaced at 133hrs is still in her (Blackie?).

I did have to replace the upper gear set due to letting a friend drive :splat: He ran over a submerged log and chipped a gear tooth.

Muddyrover, care to share what pitch and whose prop this Supercharged 22' Classic is running, WOT RPM and a GPS Speed at WOT ? I am running a Procharger M-1 with Intercooler on a 454 Mag MPI Bravo I and am very interested in the set up of the above mentioned 22' Classic. Thank You.

I was hoping to find the history of this boat from someone here, but from my 10 mins in the saddle...this is what i learned:

I didn't quiz him about the pitch yet, heck that wouldn't do me much good anyway as i don't know the gear ratio of the drive, and neither did the owner...but it looked like a 25 pitch stilhetto. WOT was right around 5400RPM (81 on MY GPS) with 6 PSI of boost This seemed high on both counts, but apparently this was a full blown off-shore race crate motor. He has a reciept for over $15,000 in motor/motor work when it was setup for it's first owner. It seems to survive this as it has over 200 hrs since the install. The 500 hp may be a low estimate....

...still trying to sell the defender. $22,500 if anyone is interested...

81MPH in a 22 Classic.......500HP sounds right.
