View Full Version : Old Navy Jet Boat?
Any other "Old" Long Island guys up here, if so how many remember the Navy testing a jet boat out of Babylon back in the early 50's? It was a big aluminum jobby, they would sneak it out at night and run it on Great South Bay.

Gee Mop; I guess I must be one of the younger pups on the Registry,as I am only 60. That would have made me only 8 yrs old back then. Can't wait to hear from the old salts that remember :jestera: :jestera: ....Ed

I remember an older guy telling me the story about running these "Large Aluminum" boats at night to test them in New Jersey. They were powered with Lycoming engines, I think he said. They were preping them for the "Bay of Pigs".
I don't know if it was the truth or not.....but it was a good story he told about all the problems they had with the engines and all. I think he said they were 12 cylinders too.
Heck he told me about them back in 79-80.
