How bad is it? Should I cancel my trip for this weekend to Gators and Shell Island?

Maybe a stupid question, but what is Red Tide? Is that where a bunch of boaters go out, hit manatee, and the water turns red from the blood?
Yea, I live up north where all we have to worry about is zebra muscles on lake erie.

It's a bacteria that depletest he oxygen in the water and kills all the fish. Dead fish stink.
Anyone going to Gators or Shell Isl tommorow?

Is it safe to swim in and when you get out of the water, do you have sores on you? It's not like that penis bug I seen on tv, is it?

I sure as hell hope not. But if it's not over I won't be swimming. Just bar hopping

In the summer of 81 I went to Sarasota and it was so bad,my glasses kept getting covered with the mist or whatever I was breathing by the water's edge. Smell was inescapable, but we went down to Captiva and beat it.It has boundaries....

It's not that bad now. I was at the beach yesterday and all it did was make me cough a little. I wouldn't cancel your trip.

Wasn't that bad. Saw a few floating fish. No odor. Really good day until I beached on a sandbar.
