I have been told by a friend that the NFB will eliminate most all of my torque steer. Basically he played with the drive, pins etc, and said they were not bad, had a little play, but not bad. He said all my problems reside in the wheel part of the boat. Changing rotation reverses the problem and there is about 2" of side play before the wheel moves even tho the tiller when viewed inside of transom is moving. So I am thinking that this is worth a try.

Anyways, with the above link which one do I buy as a direct replacement for my original '74 Teleflex unit? Which one is best given that Hydraulics are out. (for now)

I also want a hole pattern that matches the original...

Any ideas and has anyone tried Teleflex's NFB system?

Thanx :)

You might want to also look at Uflex with the planetary gear helm.

I do think you would have to drill a new hole or two, but for a better system, I'd do it.

Ultaflex was what I was told to buy Greg. You're right. Now, Rotech or Accura? ( I )

Unfortunately, a mechanical NFB system will not remove your torque steer problem. It may lessen the effects some by reducing the feedback but, as soon as you go to turn the wheel you will feel that it requires way more torque on the steering wheel in one direction and you will still witness the slop and the reduced steering effort in the other direction. In my experience, the NFB does not do enough to make steering pleasant. Power hydraulic or at least hydraulic will make a much bigger difference. I am assuming we are talking Volvo here. I would invest the dollars (when they become available) to convert to a mercruiser system before I would invest those same dollars into external hydraulic steering for the Volvo. Just my opinion based on many trials.

Lenny have you thought of adapting power steering to it? It is not as bad as it sounds to do. Or install an internal hydraulic ram and helm, you will not get the results you want from a cable setup.

I'm sure you know the Accura is the NFB system. It's up to you, I have the Rotech on the 22 with power steering.
