View Full Version : Day Tripper
Debbie and I were wanting to take out the Formula today to be sure it's ready for next week's poker run in Jax, but the weather wouldn't cooperate. We didn't want to sit around in the house all day, so we decided to ride through the Ocala Forest up to Palatka to see if we could see any boats from the Radical Boat Reunion.
Debbie absolutely loves to ride in the woods. I got her some chicken livers and boiled peanuts on the way, and she was in seventh heaven. It doesn't take much to please a redneck girl. :biggrin.: :pretzel:
We were headed north up Fl 19, just as we crossed Hwy 40, I saw a familiar boat and truck on the side of the road. :)
Yep, it was our illustrious Fishboy. :biggrin.:
While we were talking, a couple other of his S&F buddies went by.
The weather was getting sketchy, and Fish was debating turning left and heading to Astor and down to Silver Glen, or turning right and heading home. I didn't notice which way he went.
Debbie and I continued up 19 to Palatka. There were only a couple of the S&F boys still around the ramp.
We crossed the river, went down 17 to 309, and to Welaka, only because I'd never been there before. :)
Continuing south, we came to a place some of you are familiar with. :)
Can someone tell me if this is an island off Porky's? I didn't see the marked channel, so I assume it is west of this island?

Cuda, in post 6 the first pic, where is that ramp in Welaka? We were thinkin about using that one vice Palatka cuz it's a shorter run to the glen and vice versa if weather rolls in, we could zip to Welaka in no time.

Yes it is. It's pretty steep down to the ramp, but the ramp looks serviceable. Not much parking right there, but I saw an empty lot down the street that some trailers were parked in.

I think the red one was fiberglass if that's the one you are talking about. I didn't notice the white boat until just now.

-------You know,,,,Poodle could be right about the Riva, but Im guessing a Fino. I might be wrong but I seem to see a deep V which would rule out ant Riva. What do think, Baxter????.........Bill S

Cuda, that boat hanging in the boathouse is natural wood, not red painted plastic dude.... ya really thunk I was asking about that white barge??? :sombrero: :biggrin.:
I did look at the red boat, but my eyesight isn't what it used to be. I was thinking to myself the closest thing it looked like that I had seen was a Chris Craft launch, even though I knew that wasn't what it was.

I blew it up about 600-800% and at the transom it looks pretty flat. The lift itself is visible though.
What does a new Riva go for...600-700K?

I can confirm the presence of a Riva on the St. Johns. A couple weekends ago while rafting up there was a gentleman with a 48' Silverton. We were talking and the guy owns Boat Tree which is the local Hydra sports and regal dealer, anyway he was talking of a business associate of his that has a Riva and he is on the St Johns..... beaucoup bucks.

While we're identifying boats, anyone know something about these? I saw it on the ICW a few weeks ago. I think it said Excalibur Hawk, but I'm not sure.
