Here are the specs and a picture. Has anyone spent any water time in one of these?

They built these in both an O/B and an I/O configuration.

If it is what I think it is???? Challenger??

Fairly light, very fast, A friend had a 482 tall block in his and ran it on Lake Ontario. Not as smooth as a Donzi(weight?)........Ed

Here are your first two clues.
1. This boat is still being manufactured on a limited basis.
2. The manufacturer is on the west coast.

"With its long deck and narrow beam, the 23 Offshore cuts through rough water like it nonexistent. Looking more like a scaled down offshore racer than a family performance boat, you will be pleasantly surprised by its all around tame handling and versatility."

Is that a Shadow? Or a Rallye? Both were copies of the original Challenger 21 which is now being sold by Superboats as the Legend 21.

I spent a couple of hours today with the owner of this boat mold. Mr. Gene Willen, President of Howard Boats is the gentlemen that built 12 of these boats, and he still has the mold to make a few more. gene made 3 of these for himself, but all are now spread arouund the country. There might be 2/3 in the NW and 2/3 in the SW. As for the rest, Gene has lost track of the owners. Today as I talked to Gene and toured his facility, I learned the history on this model. The bottom hull design configuration was taken from a 27' Magnum hull chopped down by the past owner of Crusader boats here in the US. Gene said that this boat would have been a prime candidate for a Blackhawk outdrive since Gene incorporated a long Delta pad on the bottom of the hull, plus the hull has a fair amount of rocker already built into it. Gene felt that a new/used Merc. Scorpion 377 would be the way to go today with this hull. Gene quoted me a price of $65K with a Merc. small block chevy and a Bravo 1 outdrive combo. 3 months to build a new boat. It is a low freeboard design with a center mounted fuel tank. It reminds me of a long Donzi Classic 18.

I do not know who makes that "Magnum", but it is not a Magnum Marine (http://www.magnummarine.com/history/historyall/history_intro.html) product...
Where do you think I was snooping around when I saw the pictures of the Magnum 80?
