Does the starter have a position that sometimes makes no connection.
I thought I read here at one time that one in a thousand cranks it won't engage?
Ran for three hours, great no problem.

On trailer to flush engine and not even a crank. No noise just a single click
sound. This was like 30 times and I went over everything couldn't find any problem except loose alternator belt, figured battery must have worn down with no charge, move boat off car shake boat like hell to get it off hook and gave starter one more try, started right up and restarted another 20 times.
Can't figure this one out, except someone once said if the teeth on the starter engage the crank at the one wrong position, engine won't start?
Is this true or is it part of something else?

I've had them were a certain spot on the armature wouldn't make a connection. Lots of hours on them to develope that.

No noise just a single click
sound.

that usually happens when you have poor contact between the battery and the cable connectors

Check the starter assist soloinoid to see if it is passing current, onto the starter, that is usualy the first things to go.

Thanks guys for all your help!
Phil you were right, it was a bad solenoid.
Also put in a new ignition switch to keep it good.
Starts like a firecracker.
