How do these props compare to the ultra?
Are they faster?

Hopefully someone has an Ultra, maybe Lenny has one and will be able to provide some numbers.
I don't have one. If someone wants to send me one LH I will be gald to compare them.

I have a 24" RH Ultra. Grizz sent me a 21LH Solas. Apparently the slip on the Solas is around 5-7%. My Ultra (24) slips at 19%

We went down 3" of pitch due to the way these hook up.
Grizz has compared these two props a lot and swears this is a better way to go.

I will let you know once my gets here in the mail. :)

Lenny, what kind of Solas prop is it? Is it a Titan HR?

No idea. It was specifically designed for these older drives and works excellent with the Donzis'. I believe Grizz worked with Precision Props to get these done right. David O might know. These are a BRAND NEW item to the market.

Got ya. I asked because I ordered a Titan HR 3-blade.

I didn't work with presion on these I worked directly with the Solas engineers they flew out to my place last May We have been working on this for 3 years no one wanted to order them so I did. They are similar to the Titan, but then they all are. Someting about the pitch progression. I talked to Dr. Solas Ling himself and was able to get his support as well as the national sales manager and advertising manager who is also a Hydrodynamic engineer also. Thats how it happened. Do I beleave in them, I took off the Hill prop and the Ultra and I and am using the Solas Prop

Big Grizz

I have a 14 x 26, short 2 5/8 spline, LH ultra
4600RPM @ 53mph, Volvo 270, 350SBC
What would be gained with your Solas props?

Marlin, which gearset do you have?
At 1:61's you have about 25% slip  and 13% if they are 1:87's. ( I can't see you running the 1:87's) RPM's are on the low side, and if you are running the 1:61's then there is not much prop biting anything. I think you would also be a good candidate for the 21P. Bolt on design on your drive with the newer prop nut (and tapped prop shaft).

My 24 ULTRA slips to the tune of 19 + %

The Solas are seeing somewheres around 7%

Lenny,

Don't know the drive ratio and the mph is not gps.
This is a standard crate engine.
The smaller pitch would give higher rpms and mph, less slip?
What kind of performance gain could I expect?
I thought I had standard performance for a 350 X18, no mods,
when third pin on Volvo, she pegs the 55 mph Faria gauge, 58 mph tops?

I am GPS'ing 58 at 5200 in third pin with the ULTRA. I hope to see the same numbers with the SOLAS but lose the slip (since I am dropping 3" pitch.) The SOLAS I find on my boat can be played like a centrifugal clutch. At 3000-3500 and hammer it, you can feel it free-wheel and catch after about 3 seconds. Then there is this wild holeshot once it hooks up. Not the best way to run a boat I am sure. :D

I can't see this being any worse and Grizz's slip numbers tell all. By my calculations, if I can achieve about 7% slip, and spin a 21 to full avail, at similar rpms, nothing should change except holeshot and stability.

We'll see. Any day now.

Why would it do that?
