Holy crap. I don't know the missing gentleman; I hope that he is found safe and sound and I offer my prayers for his safe return. This kind of thing always makes my stomach clench and my heart ache for those left to worry and wait.

I am Cst. Jason Morton of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. I am assisting the Ontario Provincial Police with their investigation into the disappearance of Brian Kamrath. I appreciate the time and effort that both yourself and Ed Donnelly have taken to post this important message.
At this time, Brian Kamrath has yet to be located. Efforts by Search teams, including helicopters and tracking dogs, have been unsuccesful at this time. Brian's car was located on Friday, 2005-05-20, abandoned in Ontario on Highway #21, along the shore of Lake Huron.

Yes; Brian showed up this morning at a friends house. The friend called me to say they were going to the O.P.P. detachment to inform them.. I called Const. Morton of the R.C.M.P. and he requested nothing be posted on any boards until full confirmation was made.
I sent a PM to 2 people that were very helpfull in regards to this situation and asked them not to post until confirmation was received.

ChromeGorilla was a true gentleman and respected my wishes

The other person couldn't wait to get it out.

Give Brian a little time. I am sure he is overwhelmed by the concern shown by so many people......................Ed

Heck ya this is some good news. You see these stories all the time on the news and we almost become numb to them. It was wierd to have some one I "know" (just by answering some of my questions one time) be the person missing. It was disconcerning.... Anyway glad to hear your OK Brian.

Now that we know everything is alright, did anyone else find it strange that the newspaper chose to state the location in terms of time (minutes) rather than distance?

"Officers found the man's vehicle abandoned on Bluewater Highway (Hwy. #
21) a few minutes south of the Village of Bayfield."

Perhaps I'm giving the Canadian press too much credit, but minutes are also used in latitude and longitude measurements. 60 minutes = 1 degree of latitude.

With the exchange rate there are only about 45 minutes per degree of latitude :)

Rich, the media coverage you were reading was from a small town radio station. It was probably taken directly from the radio broadcast, and on a local station "5 minutes south of the ......" would make sense to most of the people listening.

we backwards uneducated midwesterners have this bad habit of speaking in time instead of distance when going somewhere...

like it's 4 1/2 hours to the mackinac bridge eh.... i couldn't tell ya how far it is exactly in miles... somewhere close to 320 though...

guess when you have the wide open spaces to drive across distance doesn't mean much and you pay closer attention to the clock...
