possible purchase

I have been slowly heading toward the purchase of a classic 16 or 18. There are very few in Iowa, and short of a road trip to inspect one,I have been unable to purchase one. Well low and behold, I run in to an old high school buddy, and it turns out he may have his 16 up for sale. I did not get the year, but he did say it was the last year for the big V8. I know the history of the boat and it is on the lake where we live (a big plus). He talking around 15K for the boat. Is this a fair deal? I don't expect to steal it, but I would like to be able to step up to an 18 footer at some point with out taking a huge hit. Thanks for the help
