Has anyone here ever boated on Lake Jessup? It's a big lake I'd like to run in this summer. Any public boat ramps?

Yes, yes, and it's shallow. If you get stuck, you won't run out of fresh meat... plenty of gators everywhere.

Debbie counted about a dozen gators on it yesterday when we crossed it on 417. Where's the boat launch?

Used to be at least two ramps. One down at the end of Sanford Ave. at Lake Jessup Park. The other was at the bridge where SR 46 crosses a loop of the St. Johns R. Good lake for your little fishboat. You can go on down SR 46 east a few miles further and put in to Lake Harney.
When I was a kid, we used to run the river south from Sanford to Lake Harney in our old 26' Steelcraft (north to Jax too). The Corps of Engineers used to maintain the river and markers that far south. They stopped that a long time ago. In high water, you can find yourself motoring over pastures! There are enough sloughs and deadends you can get really lost down there. Local knowledge is good...a GPS would be smart. Follow the breadcrumbs home. You're at the tailend of shad season; probably need to wait for next year. Fishing the St. Johns River from Sanford south for shad used to be a big deal.

Funny you should mention shad. Yesterday we were on Hwy17 coming around Lake Monroe when we saw a big school of fish. I told Debbie I thought they were shad. :)

Is Lake Jessup connected to the St John's?

Yes, up at the Northeast end of the lake. Heck, you can put in at your place and run south. You'll get there eventually!!
