I do not have one on my 22 and it never did. How do I go about getting one?

I believe the manufacturer is required to have it on every boat they make showing what is USCG approved for (rating), concerning passengers and weight. After the boat is sold I don't necessarily know if is required any longer to be affixed to the boat. Mine was peeling off so I just took it off. It was a sticker near the helm.

After a quick search of some USCG and other sites I can't see the actual wording about having to have capacity plates affixed. Just that it is illegal to exceed the limits on the pate concerning # of passengers, total weight and maximum HP rating for the vessel. Hmmmmm further research needed..... :anchor:

I thought it was required if you are pulled over by CG or DNR.

paper work I have in front of me from my CG boating certification states the plate is only mandatory on vessels under 21 feet i think also it was made mandatory for mfg's around the time that the HIN was made mandatory plus it must be near the helm or steering console too

My 87 18 has a plastic placard screwed on under the shift/gas lever. I looked on cg site too. And didnt find a quick clear answer. May vary by state! Contact your local cg or dnr, or... ,whoever it may be that might be pulling you over... :shark:

Frank...
does the 18 have one??

Nope. Too old. I think I've only owned one boat that was new enough to have one.

I mis-read your post and thought you said you had one on your 16...
