I put my 22' Classic in today for the first time since purchasing it last fall. Everything was great except for 2 things. The water temp ran consistently at 180 at high speeds. Settled down to 165-170 range at slow speeds. Isn't it supposed run at 160? Also, the speedo didn't work. The pin is pointing straight down and doesn't move. It worked last year during the sea trail with the surveyor. Any ideas? Are the 2 related? :bonk:

Nice steady 180 running hard is fine if it does not start creeping up after a minute or so. Try thumping the "dash" the needle may be stuck on the speedo, if not the pickup may be clogged.

if you run a BIT warm at WOT and cool down at slower speeds you most likely need to replace the impeller.

what year is your 22?

The impeller was just replaced as was the thermostat.
It's a 1999 with a 502 EFI.

Sounds like someone put in a hotter thermostat.

Check behind the drive to make sure the speedo tube is hooked up. If it is take off the tube and clear it out there may be something restricting it also the 502/415 runs at 180 at 3/4 to full throttle. My 502 Idles at 160-165 and sometimes runs to 200 the alarm sounds at 210-220

Thanks for all of the feedback guys. Sounds like 180 at WOT is normal. Never got much above that so I guess that's OK. I'm going to check the speedo tube this weekend. I think it's probably related to having the lower unit recently serviced. Thanks again.
