What are most of you F/W cooled guys running for a Tstat temp wise? I was going to go with a 170, the new Merc setup I have has a 160. Seems like some have said they are running 180!

Mine came with a 190*, and I must say it runs extremely well at that temp.
Buizilla suggested I change to a 180*, and that's what I'm planning on doing.
However, I read an article recently stating how well SBC's run at 190*.

George I know that higher temp does produce more power, that has come up many times. But how much and is it worth it, I was going with a 170 to give some margin but will probably go with 180. In going through the bags of new stuff I got with the Mecr setup it had a 160, that got me thinking but sounded too low. I am going to open up the new cooler tomorrow and see how many tubes & passes there are then I will decide whether or not to swap it out.

I'm pretty sure I have a 160 in mine. It's been a while since I put it in, so I'm not positive.

Phil, one advantage I may have is the electric circ pump, which runs full speed all the time. It greatly reduces the chance of hot spots when idling after a hard run.
At least I like to think so.

Yup with a block pump it pays to run it down at low cruise for a few minutes after a hard run, you would be surprised how many customers over the years that came back in due to "False Overheat"!
