View Full Version : Best Size Tabs for an 18?

I'm wondering what size trim-tabs you all are running on 18's?

I know some of you don't think tabs are worth it on an 18, but since I still run one of the "drive-trim challenged" volvo's, I need a way to calm down the massive porpoise below 40MPH... I love the way the boat runs at the top end with it in the highest trim position, but at anything below 40 it just bounces all over the place.

I guess another question is if any of the other volvo folks are using tabs successfully to solve similar problems?

Thanks,
EG

9 to 12 inch will do the trick !

Eric, what prop are you running? The 18 should not porpoise at any speed.

I'm running a LH 24" ultra.

It's a very predictable porpoise in that as soon as get to 3500 RPM, it immediately settles down and runs very stable.

It doesn't do it with the drive down 1 notch, but I really like the running attitude in the last hole better...I just wish I could occasionally cruise at lower speeds...

I've been debating between 9x12, 12x9, and 12x12 tabs....

Jim, I wonder if our boats miss each other :p

LOL!! I think so!

The Ultra should have solved the problem.

I run in the second hole. In the last one, I get some serious speed but also a ton of torque steer. Since Janet drive this boat more than me, I decided to put it back on the second hole.
