Well,

FINALLY put the boat in the water today, unfortunately, it was for less time than it will take you to read this thread.

Problem: Engine starts and runs fine under no load, in water, after shifting, after getting above 1200 RPM, enging starts to sputter and backfire badly!!

When I installed the Pertronix distributer, it said to disconnect the resistance wire, so I did, however, it wouldn't stay running, only while key in the start position, so I hooked it back up, and it runs fine (if not under a load). Is this what the "Pertronix OMC fix" takes care of? Any suggestions?

The positive wire from the distributor has to be connected to a 12v source that does not go through the ballast resistor / resistor wire (it needs a full 12v). The coil should still be connected through the resistor. If you have the cobra drive that uses the ESA module, you will need to use the "fix" that you mentioned. I just completed one for a customer of mine.

Dave,

Thank-you very much,

I'll do it today, and hopefully re-test tomorrow
