Gen2 impeller shaft seal

Does anyone know the purpose of the shaft seal that sits on top of the steel impeller housing ,they supply a gauge for the installation move but nothing holds the seal in place. :moped: :boat: Thanks Jeff

aeration!!, do not leave the tool there, it actually seals against the upper, hope that helps
