I found a GREAT book. Called "Linux for Non-Geeks"; Rickford Grant, ISBN 1-59327-034-8. The book is 20 bucks at fry's and has a full blown linux distribution on it with two cds and everythig you would need to get started. I'm still working out the FTP aspects. But this is a book that was a long time comming. Since Apple didn't do what they said they were going to do, "Make X, cross platform", this is the next best thing. Linux was always nasty with its in-house lingo. This book will help anyone through all that crap.

A close buddies kid graduated from Geek Heaven Wentworth up in mass, he has been running some big servers on Linux says its great. But told me he prefers Windows 2000 Prof at home.

It is hard finding all the drivers. But most everything else is there. I'm just saying that if any one wants to get off the MS bandwagon and maybe get an old machine to sing and dance again, this does work.

Another option if you are going to go with Linux, is Fedora. Fedora is the Freeware Red Hat Linux. Fedora Core 3 is the latest distribution. I use Fedora all the time at work. By the way, Macs are based on FreeBSD, which is very similiar to Linux.

Which version of Fedora? Core 1, Core 2,or Core 3. As of last night, I saw that Core 4 has just been made available.

Its Core 2, but you can update to core 3 for 9 bucks.
The published set - with the book - is a two CD set so it doesn't contain everything.
