Go 27/19 to Spring Hill, then take the new expressway down to Tampa. It's an easy drive. To Winter Haven, take I-4 to the Lakeland bypass, go south on it to Winter Haven. It's an easy trip.

Joe Griffith, CUDA, might also have ideas. He gets around the state a lot.

From there, I'd just take 10 to Lake City, get on 75 and head south. 75 is a good ride now, there is no construction on it. Now, getting from Tampa to Winter Haven, there is a ton of construction on I 4. You might want to take Hwy 60 over to Winter Haven. We have a job going on in Winter Haven.

The last time I drove 27, they were widening it to four lanes and a ton of construction. It may be done by now, I haven't been that way in a while.

27 is done, a really great ride.
However, if it were me, I would take Donzigo's suggestion.

Gero, I live and work in the hwy 27, I-75 area. The only problem with I-75 I have is if there is an accident in this area it can hold you ransom for hours. Hwy 19 and the new toll rd totally bypasses I-75 and I believe you'll find it's 20 or so miles closer.

It's a five hour drive from St Pete to Quincy, which is just outside of Tallahassee. We used to have a hunt camp there, and made that trip every weekend. Bradenton is farther.

Nah, thats just for the tourists, we use the cleaner stuff in a secret spot;) lol Actually, we are blessed right now with a small outbreak of red tide. It has killed over 30 manatee already and countless fish. It was mostly contained to the south (sarasota, bradenton...etc) but a few days of winds out of the SW has brought the bloom into the mouth of tampa bay and some of the southern areas os pinellas county. Not a real bad outbreak for us, but some areas have it a little worse. Besides,it is a different story in general when you get out towards the beaches even withouth the smell from the outbreak.
