Can a 18' or 22' Classic be made to run and perform with a bracket and a Clamp on?

or is best to cut in a splash well on the transom?

Thanks,

Good question,I am pretty sure the only outboards were 16s and 1 or 2 22s. The 16s had wells and the 22s had Gil style brackets, Woodsy has what I believe to be the only 22 outboard, but several 16s are out there. I like the brackets, they seem to produce the best performance.

Ken,
there are a few around, but not many. Here is what I know.

1) a member named Woodsy has I beleive the only factory 22 outboard. Sending him a PM might be a wealth of info as to his set up, how it runs, etc. He pprobably has the most first hand experience.

2) there is a guy in texas who cut the deck off of his 22 and made a center console out of it. He used a bracket.

3) I have pictures of a 22 (or a splash) that I saw in freeport that had a transome splashwell cut in it. Do not know how it ran, and could not find the owner, but it looked really neat.

SInce there are so few around, there may not be a lot of opinions as to splashwell or bracket from first hand experience, other than woodsy's 22. However, since I do not beleive there is much of a pad, a little setback would at least give you cleaner water over the lower unit, but it will dramatically change the center of gravity.

what size/weight motor are you thinking about?

PS, I will post some pics of the boats that I described above as soon as I find them
