Well we got rid of hockey now if we could do the same with nascar the world would be a much better place :biggrin.:

Ahhhh I can see it now, straight to the good highlights without being interupted by hockey or nascar..... :hyper:

I like NASCAR!!!! It's a Southern thing!
I can't think of anything I'd less rather watch than hockey, except maybe wrestling.
But since I'm from Texas, I really enjoy bull riding. I had the pleasure of attending the finals in Las Vegas a few years ago.

Wow, No Hockey, No Nascar, and you have a yankee's emblem on your boat... Sounds like someone is REALLY in touch with his feminine side  ;) LOL :jestera:

Looking forward to this season: Tony Stemart, Dale Jr a close second (he is doing the name pround, RIP #3). Chevrolet, Daytona.

"Too smart for NASCAR, too dumb for opera..."

Wow! I am very surprised at how negative so many of you are towards NASCAR... Especially since it involves speed and HP. I for one find it great fun. I even belong to a NASCAR fantasy league.

I am sure we could make room for another team owner if anyone wants to join.

Too smart for NASCAR. What a load of $%*! :fire:

BUG... As you could imagine... I am very curious to see how the motor work alters the performance compared to the stock 350 that I am used to. I just got the prop done and the shop gave me a different hub spacer for a better fit. I am not sure how much longer I can wait :shocking: :shocking:

Nascar kills me. Last year JR loses 25 points in the cup race for swearing on TV. Thats like saying to Lance Armstrong "Well Lance since you said @#$%& on TV we're taking away 2 mins off your last stage." Idiotic. Or, "well Tiger, since you said $%&* on TV we're not gonna count your winnings from last week in your tour total for the year"

Good point CG, but I guess those are the time we live in. Look what a boob flash did to the superbowl... I still think it was rediculous to penalize JR the way the did, especilly with the new format in its infancy. :(

John count me in as a major Nascar fan.
Its still not the same after the loss of Dale sr. #3 in feb, 2001 but i'm still sticking with Richard Childress's racing team and D.E.I.
Yes I was pissed too when Dale Jr. was penalized just for say "I drove the **** out of this track just like my dad did" in a fun way right after he climbed out of the car all excited after a hard driving winning race, worse is said on regular tv family shows these days.

This coming Feb, 20th is when our "Super Bowl" Kicks off and starts to roar!! :wrench: :lightning :checkered :checkered

My vacation day is in and approved, the wide screen TV is in tune and the guys are coming over to party   .

If it doesn't have an engine and a steering wheel then i'm not interested in looking at it!!! :rlol: :rlol:

Good Luck and enjoy the new season!! :crossfing

NASCAR racing is fine, but it's just racing, like Indy, CART or Formula One. I get a little tired of all the back stories of who doesn't like who, and who is good friends with who , I just like to watch the race without all the hype. Don't even get me started on the marketing merchandise, you can't go the Wal-Mart without seeing twenty guys in NASCAR shirts, and all the no.s on the cars. (I save the space on my back windshield for my Donzi sticker). Once agian I say folks, NASCAR is car racing, not a way of life. :hyper:

Ahhhh yes.....Racing has begun! Cuda, Twin 150s this year is Thursday.... I think you were talking about the Bud Shoot-out. Congrats Jimmy Johnson! Dale Jarrett on the pole this year and Jimmy Johnson outside. Those 2 are set in stone. The 150s set the rest of the fields starting positions although then you've got this new top 35 owner points get into the race no matter what. Not sure I like that yet. I think you should win the Championship by your performance. That means making every race through your qualifying and luck. Not because you happen to have a better point standing.

Dale Sr. was my man. Started watching him in 79' when he was a rookie. In my book, bumpin is racing although he took it a little to far at times. NASCAR marketing and apparel has become what it is because of Dale Earnhardt. Now, I go for any of the RCR teams or DEI teams. I think Dale Jr. is filling the shoes just fine. Yep, turn on any TV show during prime time and your likely to hear worst words than what Dale said last year.

Those of you giving NASCAR the thumbs down, probably haven't been to a race. There isn't another event in the world where people pay a $100 for a seat and never sit in it the whole 3 to 4 hours of the event. I've been lucky to be able to attend a number of different tracks and forms of racing. Favorite has to be the Bristol night race in Aug. We're talking a half mile track, 43 cars, lights and non stop action. Charlotte All Star race in May is another favorite. Haven't been there in a few years due to another love of bringing Donzi boats together in one place. (AOTH) Yes, I have a diecast collection filling my TV room. Driver autographs just like those collecting baseball cards with autographs. Another favorite and reason I liked "The Winston" in NC was the special paint schemes put on the cars for just that race. I have every one of Dale Sr's special paint scheme diecast cars. Even though he is gone and RCR was the team that started the special paint schemes, I just can't sell those diecast. I really like the rookie crop this year. Truex Jr., Roush has a good young kid from the truck series (Edwards I think), Hendrick has a kid named Bush who's brother won the Championship last year and there are a couple others in there. (I need the Friday USA Today just to know who is in what car this year again) My 7 year old daughter can tell you just about all the drivers names in the cars from last year. It's like that Friday or Saturday night race we attended in our younger days or maybe still do. Everyone has a favorite and a guy they hate and you know who drives just about every car. I think the only difference is of course the ticket price and you can actually meet every driver after the race at the local shows.

My family also creates a fantasy race group and since I consider the members of this board family, by all means, anyone interested, can join our group. It's from the ESPN website, group name is boldt and pass-word is boldt. Come join us and enjoy the races more by watching your team perform.

I look at Speedweeks at Daytona as the beginning of Spring. Boating is just around the corner for us Northern folks. Racing with a steering wheel and an engine in any form is a good thing! :checkered :crossfing

Scott,B. Well said man!!

You have just restored my faith here, I couldn't believe some of the negative feelings I read.
To respond to those that do i'll just say, i've seen more people walking around in shopping malls etc, wearing their favorite team base or football jackets then I do see Nascar jacket wearer's, so tell me who believes their sport is a particular way of life I don't think its the Nascar fans! Or maybe it is, I have a Dale Earnhardt sr #3 jacket and it feels good to wear. I also wear Harley Davidson tee shirts, and have been since 1978 when I bought my first FXS lowrider which I still own. Now thats a life style to many, its an escape from the 9 to 5 life for some!

It has been noted that Nascar is now the largest watched spectator sport in the U.S.A!
If you don't like auto racing fine, but you don't have to bash it, I don't follow baseball but I don't think people that do are wierd. So when are the Dodgers coming back to Brooklyn? :crossfing :)

Some folks like beer or liquor some drink wine, and some will swallow anything! :jestera: :rlol: :jestera:

I love Dover Downs and we're always between turn 1 & 2,
and yes we're standing!!   :shocking:

Best regards and fun for all,

Walt, Dover (The Monster Mile) is a favorite for me also. My brother lives in PA and for my b-day, he took me to the race that happened right after 911. We had garage passes through a company he was doing some work for. What an experience! Inches from the teams and the cars.

I have a white drivers helmet that over the years, I've been collecting driver autographs on. I was able to obtain a number of autographs that weekend, but was just amazed at how some people don't have a clue when you should talk to a driver and when you shouldn't. These drivers are working. In the middle of a practice session is not the time to be hounding a driver for an autograph. Anyway, there is a path that leads from the garage area to the driver's motor coach parking area. After practice, many of the drivers were more than willing to sign my helmet. One signature made the weekend for me. Dale Jr. stopped and pulled me out of a crowd of about 20 people all shoving items at him. He signed my helmet with-out me even asking. Yes, I would have asked, but the point is, I didn't have to. Dale Jr. then won the race that year. My brother and I were in victory lane at the end of the race. After all the TV interviews and picture taking that occurs, Dale Jr. turned to where I was standing and did a thumbs up to me. It was a very special momment for me and 1 I'll never forget because this driver remembered a fan who was a nice guy.

Now, a not so nice thing that happened was Mr. Tony Stewart which really surprised me since he came from the grass roots racing of sprint cars. Maybe he was just having a bad day, but Tony refused to sign any autographs that day along the path when other drivers were taking the time to stop and acknowledge the fans. He's young, but I think he had won a Championship. I guess he just hasn't figured out yet that the fans pay his pay-check. He drives a Chevy now, so if he's leading, I don't boo him, but you won't find him on my fantasy team or my helmet either.

For me, doesn't matter what kind of motorsports is on the TV. I try to catch it all! I've seen Drag Boats, Hydroplanes, NHRA, NASCAR - Bush, trucks and Nextel Cup, Tractor Pulls, Moto-Cross, Offshore world championships both when everyone was under APBA and seperated, WOO - sprint cars, Modifies, Cart, IRL, Formula1 tunnel boats, Formula1 cars are only a couple hours away in IN, but I haven't been to that race yet, local Saturday night racing. Ohio being so centrally located, just about every form is available and some of the most famous tracks in the world are with-in a days drive. I don't get to experience all of this quite so much anymore, but having experienced it, I'll never get it out of my system. You know, the way 43 cars heading for turn 1 on the opening lap, or a top fuel dragster warming up in the pits while you are 3' away, or even the sound of a performance boat being backed off the trailer at the local launch ramp. It's all good!

Hi Scott,

I was there that weekend too, it was something to behold. Lee Greenwood sang the opening song "I'm Proud To Be An American" that sunday and thousands of American flags we're handed out to all of us and the roar of everyone cheering after he sang was almost as loud as the 43 = 850h/p Nascar cars all grouped together starting off into turn one!
The downside was that no coolers we're allowed in only beer in clear plastic bag and no ice. We made alot of trips to the vendors until a few started going up into the stands to sell. Yippy!! :yippie:

Sorry to about your experience with Tony Stewart that day but this should make you feel alittle better. My buddie noticed him and Dale Jarett together in the casino that late morning I guess it was a quick pitstop and Tony wasn't having a good day then so I guess his moodiness just continued, must have been something he didn't eat? :embarasse

One thing I will say is that he likes to push the Nascar officials buttons and that I enjoy seeing. Granted they can't have open fist fights like years ago at track side or in the pits, but Nascar can't expect a driver to remain emotionless after someone intentionally tries takes them out or succeeds in doing so. Heck I think we all had a few union meetings out in the parking lot to settle a dispute, its only human and the bible says "an eye for an eye". Paybacks a bitch and it evens the score, just like no driver ever wanted to see Dale Sr, in their rear-view mirror if they played with him and got him pissed. :angryfire :jestera:

Heres two photo's that I put together "top and bottom" for you that i'm sure you'll love seeing and to copy them, its Dover and its from either sept,1999 or sept, 2000'

The third is of Dale Jr, avoiding trouble between the start finish line and turn one, and the fouth pic is of Dale Jr doing the polish victory lap and smoking his tires. :checkered

I used to watch quite a bit of it in the 70's and 80's even some in the 90's, but I pretty much quit watching it when it became a cult with hero worship.
