Quite a bit. I have 650+ HP on my TRS and MercTrans. My brother has about 600 HP on his TRS with the 72c in his 24 Cigarette. He hasn't had any trouble. I had the clutches start to slip on the MercTrans after about 900 hours use but a rebuild using clutches designed for drag racing cured that. I am however, very carefull not to launch mine at very high speeds. The drives alone have never had any problems.

Bob,

Bob,
I don't know the safe HP limit but I do know people who run more power than I, successfully. One of your fellow boaters at Lake Geneva ran a 633 in a 26 Sutphen with the B-W trans and TRS. I saw the dyno sheet on the engine... almost 1400 HP. He would break the drive not the trans. I suppose if he could have figured a way to make the drive last longer, the trans may have then failed.
Good luck.

Bob,
He reduced the HP in the Sutphen and then sold it. He now has a 28 Apache with twins. I don't know the engine displacement but they each have about 930 HP and TRS drives.

I know a guy down here that has one. He bought it brand new, and I hear it still looks the same, to this day. I can't remember the last time I saw him out in it though... it's been awhile. 482" for power maybe?? pretty sure it's a TRS ...

TRS drives were designed to hold up to about 500-550hp, above that and even more so if forced induction is used you need to reshim the uppers/lowers and debur/shot peen gears so they can handle the additional stresses. This set-up is best done with the existing used bearings that have reached their set point provided the are not worn out. When this is done they can handle about 750-800hp as long as you don't land with drive tucked in and under full throttle, ie the prop needs to slip as it re-enters the h20 under throttle or the upper gearset will go through the case. As far as your 72c, they will handle about 550-600 in stock config. If you desire more hp, we can have it redone with additional plates and fluid flow modifications. After that it will handle about 900hp. You would be looking at about $1,500-$2000 for both mods. Hope this helps.

thanks everyone for your imput
cant wait to get it together and see how it handles
motor should be done in 2 to 3 weeks then wait for the ice to melt
just woundering if i should send out the trans to huber to be redone and beefed up it has about 350 hrs since new
what about props?
thanks again bob
