The North/East Donzi Club is pleased to announce the dates for the third annual Sound of Thunder 1000 Islands Donzi Run.
The dates this year will be July 14-18, with most of the structured activities taking place on the Friday, Saturday, Sunday. I will be posting a formal agenda ASAHFO.

Our base hotel will once again be the Edgewood resort... www.theedgewoodresort.com ... 1-888-EDGEWOOD (33439663) , ask for Cathy. The hotel has blocked us off a great bunch of rooms, they are in the office Monday to Friday 9-2 EST, and they are ready for your calls. (unless you're Ken Lessard, then you don't need to call again.... Ken's already booked .... :D )

They have also given me their dock layout, so I will be able to co-ordinate all of our docking requirements, just give Cathy the length of your boat when you book, and we will get everyone tied up safe and sound.

Janine, the owner, has graciously offered to give us the run of their big wood burning BBQ for Saturday night, and she also has offered to supply all of the plates, and silverware. So we will be having a BBQ dinner on the Saturday night, details to follow. (I promise to put this on an agenda)

The weather in July in this part of the world is fantastic, and Alexandria Bay ..... www.alexbay.org .... will be in full summer season swing.

Anybody who is traveling from west of the 1000 Islands, and is planning on continuing to Winni, I will have secure storage at a marina available on the Canadian side.

Fire away with the questions, I'll answer everything I can, and check out the T-shirt and let me know what you think....check out the url below for a preview of this year's T-shirt.

Nope I'm pretty sure they'll still let you Vermont guys into New York state :D :D

You'll only need passports if you plan on landing in Canada, we will be staying in New York state, but boating on both sides of the river. As long as you don't leave your boat, and land in Canada, you will not need toreport to Canada Customs.

Frank nothing strange about Canada, and the area is a Wonder Land. I've been going up there for many years, long before I got back into boating. I have since checked it at the bigger towns and snuck into the smaller places, the people a very pleasant food is good and no arguing about the fine beer. One of my favorite haunts is a super windy river on the Canadian side, the only thing about the waters is STAY in the channels unless you have some local knowledge with you. Last year Doc and Road Trip gave me palpitations vearing way out of bounds but luckily made to back to the channel safely.

Oh no! If you are out with a search party early in the day, who's gonna through stuff at MOP from the balcony? You know he loves to run that thing pretty darn early - and this year it'll be bigger and louder. Maybe the kids can stay behind and MOP can be their arcade. Certainly an entertaining thought.

Can't be too sure. He's been working hard adding some hardware weight to the stern, bringing the tank back etc., he's probably lost as many pounds.
(like he could afford that!)

More evidence -to wit- his inability to afford a digital chronicle device; he won't be able to afford filling the tank, nevermind running the thing at all hours.

Beer's at Matty's cove. Paper cups O.K. - no need for glass/tin projectiles, Phil might still be on the trailer.

Some of the above is probably true! The event is my main goal, except I will be staying on my buddies island to add a few days down time, he had a fit last year that I did not stay out there. So those with hang overs :lightning  may rest in peace, I will tear around up that way in the early AM! Will be running up to Rochester the following weekend for my daughters wedding, I am mulling flying Bonnie home and towing to Rochester doing so boating there then home after the wedding :crossfing . I just spoke to Janine, and she has pretty much decided to give us all of A-dock. When you call and book your room, and dock space, make sure you tell them you are with the N/E Doni Club, then shoot me an email with your boat size, and days required. My Sgt-at-Arms and I will be reviewing all dock requests, and assigning dock space in an un-biased and democratic manner..... (cold beer, and hard cash works best  )

well I have been a little hard on you early risers, and I had an idea come to me while marching up 5th ave on St Patricks day, what a better way to start an early donzi run, with the early morning fog and mist and in the shadow of those mid evil castles but to start the day with a lil bagpipe music I can escort ya down from your rooms out onto the dock for the startup so if ya gonna do dark:30 it takes me some time to fill the pipes and tune em up so I'll be up at your rooms at lastcall :30 deal?? :) ;)

the St. Clair River is the roughest piece of water I have EVER run on. Ole Red and I were talking just the other day about watching Carl and Patti hit that freighter wake, holy smokes, I won't forget it! They had to be twenty feet in the air!

As for the St. Lawrence, yes she can be rough, but not typically. With few sea walls and very wide at most points, the water is typically pretty nice. Of course, staying in the channel can be a challenge. Still, some of the most awesome water in North America!

Take a few 16 surfing lessons from Matty and get ready to have a blast!

Todd- You definately need to put together another gathering. It's too bad 'Air Patti's' launch wasn't caught on film.

Running with Randy that day was definately an experience riding rough waters... Between that and a few minutes on the great lake before lunch and I definately got a feel for what it's like to be on the inside of a washing machine.

With NY harbor as part of my local stomping ground I was really surprised by just how much commercial traffic and big cruisers you get up there.

The thing about the 1000 Islands is there is always some where to run in relatively decent or calm water, I have been going up there for many years. If it is rough on one side it is better on the other or in a pinch get in amongst the islands. There is really no reason to get to beat up for any length of time especially running out of Alex Bay, I run out of Blind Bay 12 miles north of A Bay on real open water and only have two options 2 miles across following the channels or 12 miles toward A Bay when its rough. Plus if it is a bit crappy there is always a seating in a bigger D boat available. As some of the late risers pointed out I start running early 6:30-7:00 glassy or rough hang over or not (usually don't blow until mid morning and dies by evening) and I will run all day if the other half lets me, it is one of the finest places to boat I have ever found.

You might have lost sight of Don and his 18 from time to time, but we've been through 8 - 10's on Georgian Bay a few times. Watching him power up and down those swells is a treat. Don's always at the finish line looking to drink the county dry of any available 'rumskis'. I'm gonna suggest a little pre-mix to toast the lighthouse. :spongebob Wow...that's a great Aerial Shot....I gotta tell ya, this area has to be one of the most spectacularly beautiful places to boat...I have ever boated. I honestly believe if more Donzi Owners came up to this years 1000 Isles Event....they would never miss it...again.

Its reasonably close (a days drive) to anyone coming in from the MidWest, New England, Canada, and the NorthEast. I attend as many Events as anyone here...and I know others will back me up here, this gathering should be on everyones Donzi Schedule, heck Poodle flies in and has drove up from Frickin Miami? Now I think that says alot, if one of the most knowledgeable & respected Registry Members...makes that kind of effort and now has recruited one of his best friends to join the Mix...I mean WTF?

So why am I writing this....Cuz I wanna see a massive turnout to this years gathering. I think this has the potential to develop into one of the premier venues for us Donzi Lunatics. It also has one of the "Worlds" most prized collections of older performance and wooden boats on the Planet, in Clayton, New York. A must see....this is always on the agenda for most attendees to the area....and I think it resonates in the veins of most Donzi Classic Owners, because we all really appreciate the history and tradition that has evolved into what Classic Boats have always offered their owners, Panache & Style and Class.

If you have never been to Alexandria Bay and never been to this Event...book now, save your pennies...and I promise...you will feel at home as soon as you tie up your boat to the Slip. The Edgewood Resort is a very nice facility, I believe the Docks are nicer than the ones even at the Hyatt in Sarasota. I would recommend ya give yourself an extra day, either before or after the weekend....why? Cuz you will not wanna leave.... :spongebob

Come on and give Cathy a call....reserve your spot in History, cuz this years Gathering is going to be one for the record books....

an AMEN for the Doctor!?!

To add to the touristly flavor, the "summer cottages" put up by the wealthy in the early 1900's are fantastic. I cannot imagine the amount of effort that went into constructing these places, especially on a postage stamp island. Singer Castle, Boldt Castle, and especially, the Boldt Boathouse, are amazing pieces of architecture and open to the public.

Endless waters combined with a classic summer setting just beg to be enjoyed in a Donzi.

See you all there!

I have invited a couple of special guests that will bring all kinds of great stuff to share in the back of their van.

I'll let you know when they confirm, but lets just say that they will add to the party for sure!

I've also heard rumors that a crazy bald man could be serving Greek-style shish kabob bbq on Saturday night.

So will customs try to confiscate my two stroke blender coming across the border? Wanna see a grown man cry?

And MP, anything but Budlight, but you got the quantities right!

Boxy or other locals...we are coming out 2 or 3 days early, and would like to camp at a state park in the vicinity. Long Point State Park appears to be highly regarded, are there any others I should consider? On a lake with a launch would be nice, for a little low-key exploration before reporting to the Edgewood for the more "up-tempo" activities!

Keewaydin State Park is the park closest to A-Bay, on the US side. I don't what the campground is like, but there Marina facility is first rate. It is the launch site that the Typhoon Marine guys have used to launch their 36 Nortech Supercat for the 1000 Islands Poker Run.
I'll try to dig up the links to Keewaydin, and Ivy Lea parks and post them later.

Booked at Cedar Point State Park...got a site that fronts the river. About 5 miles from Clayton, looks like a trip to the Old Boat Museum is in order. After three nights in a tent we will be ready for the luxury of the Edgewood!

Just had my son's open house...we over-calculated a bit. Figure on me bringing some beer brats for the barby and plenty of ruffled chips.
