Peter Lugers in Brooklyn, NY.

Not a fancy place, old grouchy men wait on you..no credit cards accepted except their own and dinner for 4 can easily run $200 ..but the food is SO good.

Definitely worth the money  http://www.donzi.net/ubb/smile.gif

Patti to be sure Peter Lugers is about the finest no question, anyone coming to the north end of the right coast should check out Peter Lugers. Patti if you drag Jamie out east try Able Conklins in Huntington, great wine list and fabulous deserts.

Hmmm i don't know where i have had the best steak at... Malones in Hapeville Georgia has some pretty good steaks... for sure, but i'd have to say the best is a slab of angus right off of the coals from an open campfire... just ask patti ;)

NOW if we want to talk ribs... THE BEST... period... the Charred Rib, Lutherville Maryland... York Road, just north of the beltway across the road from the lincoln dealer... Dr Dan should know where this is...

I've only tried the Charlie's on 192 just South of Disney, but it's great!!!
In San Antonio, Texas, the Grey Moss Inn, NW of down town, has always been a favorite. It's located in a genuine 1880's ranch house (the walls are about two feet thick, and the doors are only about six feet high). They cook the steaks in a fire pit located in the old well.

Farmertex and his bride are coming in to the tundra from Texas today. One thing that FT and RT enjoy most when they get together is argueing over the pit bbq about how to best prepare a piece of meat. Usually, somebody learns something and that somebody is normally me!

Tonight the project is four, very thick, prime rib eyes pre-smoked and then seared over a bed of hot hickory with a side of anahiem pepper-spiked mashed red potatos. They'll be a lot of haggling over how to properly prepare this masterpiece, but I'll probably win out just because I'm more used to the cold!

Doesn't get any better than that!

Gotta go with Luger's. I love that place. If you don't want to spend a lot of $$, Arthur's in Hoboken is perfect. http://www.arthurstavern.com Easy to do for $25 a head. Pre beer of course. They have 2 steaks, the 24 and the 48......yeah, just try the 48.......Ben Benson's in the city is good too. I hear they opened a Palms in one of the casinos in AC, the new part of the Trop, or Borgata, i forget......I suppose I'll figure it out during the AC boat show.....

The best: Peter Lugers- hands down.

Next level of incredible places would include Smith and Wollensky, the Homestead, Ben Bensons, Sparks, Palm.

Mortons/Ruth Chris still are enjoyable chain steak houses when you're not in the mood to travel into the city.

I'd definately be up for a winter Donzi steak dinner at any of the NYC area places. Who else would be up for it?

Agree 100% with all of the above.....as for a winter dinner? Count me in 100%. I may live in Belmar, NJ, but I work in the city every day. Let's see what kind of crew we can put together.....

John, There is a steak house about 6 blocks from my sisters house in New Hyde Park.....is that Bern's? I've been wanting to get down to the one by my sis' house on my next visit, which will probably be soon, as she's having a baby at the end of Feb...

If the decor is early French Cathouse, yep, it's Bern's! (And they have my vote for best, btw, especially if you save room for dessert...)

OK, couldn't get a reservation before 10 at Bern's and I was having dinner with my dad, and that's past his bedtime.

Ate at Shula's tho. 24 oz porterhouse was great. Next time I'm out, watch out Bern's! Only thing I didn't like about Shula's was all the Miami Dolphins garbage, and the hostess telling us how great the Dolphins were in the 70s. About halfway thru her script I politely asked her to stop because she was standing in front of 2 Jets fans :kaioken:

Bern's in Tampa isn't shabby, pricey...decadent..(looks like a 1890's bordello,) but the steaks are cut JUST the way you ask,if you want it 1 1/2" thick that's how it comes out, from naturally aged beef, fresh home grown veggies ( from their own gardens and the service is impeccable.
Smith and Wolenski's in New Orleans, ( on Poydras) HUGE STEAKS, and if you want it medium rare..THAT's the way it comes to the table, ( if you want it rare..they put a bandaid on it, spank it, and send it out!) Seriously great steaks.
Day in Day out...Ruth's Chris Steak House is great everywhere.\

Damn..I'm suddenly hungry!:p

Ruth Chris is hard to beat; but, you have to mortgage your house to eat there often.

I'm officially blowing the dust off of this post, because i'll be visiting Tampa for Thanksgiving, and just found out that my mom got the family reservations at Berns for Friday. My bday was Saturday, and she's treating me. It took a while, but I'm gonna get my steak. No leftover turkey for this guy :rlol:

This was borrowed from summer vacation...does anyone remember the name of the jet boat John Candy drove up into the parking lot?

Did not want to completly derail this post but some of my favorite steaks are the ones that I cook on my own grill and I pour my favorite beer over the steak.

Best side with a steak- Garlic Mashed Potatoes
And Patti is still right- Lugars is the best.

McGary- As I re-read this thread I noticed you have a sister in New Hyde Park; thats only a short drive from the Peter Lugars in Manhasset.

well i have 2. one in the USA and one in Canada. in the USA, the chop house in chicago, a loud ny style eatery. great app's, great steak (ny strip, rare, pittsburgh) and an extensive wine list. my fav in canada, is gotham steak house, located in vancouver. same as the above, but a more relaxed and quiet atmosphere. large booths, 25 foot ceilings, and steve's margs from scratch are almost as good as mine. if you are ever in these two cities, i highly suggest you check them out.

Best side dishes? Sauted mushrooms and onions and mashed potatoes and gravy. I was going to name my boat Suck My Wake but everyone talked me out of it. I figured some people would take it as arogance instead of tongue in cheek. Back to the steak - Costco sells whole beef tenderloins for about $40. Slice it up and you have filet mignons for 5 bucks each. Who needs steak houses? Also, you've gotta love the barefoot ski scene in "weekend At Bernie's"...........

Carl,
mushrooms and onions go on a burger, they go on the side for a steak ;)

I remember a lil place my dad took me to in the bronx Chiotie's great family place, and Joe the cook when someone ordered a steak with anything on it would come to the table with an offer, try the steak just the way it is no onions no mushrooms peppers steak sauce and if it is not the best steak you have ever tasted, the steak was on him. I remember that till this day and that is the way I judge any new restaurant if they can't cook a plain ole steak than well I am not gonna try anything more fancy, a good steak needs nothing to cover it
just a guiness during and an irish coffe after ;)

My favorite is Coinjock Marina Restaurant. They serve a 32oz Prime Rib, that I get blackened...I'm drooling just thinking about it.
I used to call them on the VHF, just to make sure they "save" me one. They are located just north of the Albemarle Sound on the ditch. I need to find a boat to deliver, so I can get back up there.....DAMMITT...
Otherwise I like Bones in Atlanta, and Ruth's Chris (anywhere)... Ruth's Chris also has awesome blackened tuna too..
