polishing parts

Quick survey,

How do you guys feel about polishing parts, I've been polishing some through hulls I got from my dad, and I started doing my distributer, I think it looks good, won't chip or flake (like chrome if not done right), inexpensive (but alot of tedious labor), but I question longevity, I would think it would tend to rust pretty quickly? any input?

After the final polish, put a coat of Flitz on the part. Will help it to stay shiny longer...Ed

I had the aluminum water intake for my V drive polished and it came out great. (paid $45) Chrome shop that did it told me to use carnuba paste wax as a sealant.
