If you fly over Florida in a small aircraft at less than three thousand ft., the earth looks like a teenager's face w/terminal acne. Most are never a problem.
Here in Lady Lake a few years ago, one opened up in the S. bound lane of U.S. 441 in the middle of the night. It was only 5' in dia. but at least one car drove into it. That'l ruin your day. The powers that be say there two things that cause sink holes, not enough rain and too much rain. Go figure.
