In our (seemingly never-ending) boat search, we've come across a 1999 28ZX. Twin 350 Mags, claimed 300 hrs, claimed 74 mph top end, hydraulic steering, K-planes, etc. I read somewhere on here that Donzi made changes to the deck and/or hull on this boat in 2000 - if true, why? Are there handling or performance problems with pre-2000 hulls?

How is the ride on these boats with the 22 degree deadrise? We boat on a washing machine lake, and could get a little beat up on a rough day in our old 280 Powerquest, which is almost exactly the same size as the 28ZX.

Also, anyone know the weight on a 28ZX with twin small blocks?

Many thanks!

I have a single 502 in my 1998 28zx.Ive bilt my 502 to over 500hp.I go 75-80mph.Check for a hook in the hull before you buy.Its been a good boat and I can sit in the cabin...Iam 6ft tall. The older model year has a rise in the deck. The newer ones dont have it. Also there is more room in the cockpit area between the front seats and the back.Which is where you spend most of your time in a boat! The newer model has a sink in the cabin,I dont have one so I bring a gallon jug of water. Also think about the $$$ as an older model costs a lot less,But you might have to spend a little more on repairs.Good luck.

the boat rides real nice on choppy LK George days and runs in the low 70's. handles well, I think it weighs in at 9500 lbs - per tag on custom built trailer. I have been very pleased with the boat. I expect it to be my last purchase unless Donzi comes out with a 30 - 33 foot open bow. I would love an exra 2 - 5 feet of length in the cabin area.

Most of your problems on the 28ZX were pre 1998 when they had a single engine. 1998 was the beginning of the change twin engines with a responsive hull in 1999 the 26ZX was introduced the look was such a hit the 28ZX followed, plus it was cheaper for Donzi to design one deck for both boats. The 26 and 28 have the same cockpit area same beam. They are heavy boats and run well in rough water I have a 26ZX the 28 weighs 6500 dry around 7200 wet. Top speed is 70-72mph with 350 mags. my nephew owns a 1998 28ZX and loves his. Best of luck in your adventures.
