If lee's boat is a barrelback then we are talking about 12 hulls that the switch was made in if it is a round keel well the the number is much smaller.
so who has the last barrelback and who has the first round keel????

Boxy I smell a wager ;)

A Barrelback, below. That is the concept.

Barrelback, sharp keel here

http://www.donzi.net/hull/C1822/callard16.jpg

Non barrelback, hull #246 below round keel.

http://www.donzi.net/hull/C18-246/C18-246-4.jpg

The hull bottom (center at transom) on a sharp keeled boat has about a 1/2" radius on the bottom at center, a round keeled boat has about a 6" radius at center on bottom at transom.

You know, posting about 2-3 pics and this place will have it all worked out for you, regardless of its' current condition. ;)

A transom shot, and an engine hatch shot.

Lee: Your best bet for a clue as to the build date is the gas tank. If it still has the original gas tank, there might still be the manufacturer's tag on it with the build date of the tank stamped on it.
Aside from that, I can only guesstimate that yours is a mid '68.
I have compiled a database of Barrelback 18s in an effort to date hulls by their hardware features, construction methods, etc. If you would be so kind as to e-mail me, I'd like to ask you some questions about your hull so I can fill in some more of the missing pieces of the puzzle.
And, if anyone else would like a copy of what I have so far, you can e-mail me as well, and I'll be happy to share what I've learned.

Matty:

Chris Allard's is #226. John Callahan's "Odd Ball" is #225 The earliest "Bevel-Back" in my database is Dan Moran's #246.
If I have any of that incorrect, please let me know.

Obviously barrel backs are rare and you guys seem to have a good handle on the history/options/years/etc.... There has been a Barrelback V-drive for sale for quite a while here on the east coast(MD)that I am sure some of you must have come accross or heard about. Which begs the question as to why it is still for sale? It was supposedly bought in NJ originally. The owner cant find the hull number and has it titled as a 1973.
Do any of you guys know about this boat. Any info would be appreciated. If you don't want to post info please call me or PM me.

Are you referring to the white one in Kent Island? If I recall correctly, it was a bit high priced and had some soft spots in the deck. Also, the proximity to salt water devalues it a bit.

Thats the one.... High priced..Yeah that too. Any idea as to the real year and hull number?

Two Questions:

Lee: Is your boat a Barrel-back or a Bevel-back?

Madpoodle: How do you know the specific months these hull were built? What's your source for this info?

Sorry guys, I should be up on this stuff, but I've been distracted these last months and I haven't been hanging around this forum much lately. This thread has me intrigued, though.

Here's what I have in my database on that hull:
It's a Barrel-back so it has to be mid '68 or earlier.
Repainted, repowered w/ 350 Chevy.
Repaint, reputed to have soft wavy deck.
Been for sale for awhile. Asking $12.5K as of 1/04, Dirty bilge, Wrong dash & hatch hrdwr.

There is a Big Block 427 Ford Barrel Back up on Lake George. Its all green with a white deck and boot stripe. I think the guy has owned it since the mid 70's or so. Matty has seen the boat.
