280's can be short or long hub. With a machined threaded shaft, either will work on either. Do you have a THREADED hole in the 280 P/S center now? If so, then not to worry. It is about $300 (here) to have that done. It requires it to be chucked up in a lathe and center-tapped. Many others have done it with a hand drill too, I was just too scared to do that.

Also, in order for it to be an easy change-over between props you need the newer style 2 piece cone nut with the allen bolt in center and able to be separated. No biggy.

300 bucks??? you have to be kidding me... send me your propshaft and i'll drill and tap it to your specs on the ole lathe for LESS than HALF of that and i think THAT i am being expensive to say that... if i have an hour into it i'd be lucky... OR does this include removing and replacing the propshaft?

Jamie, that includes the removal of the prop shaft from leg, tapping it in a lathe and then re-installation in drive and fresh oil. I thought it was "reasonable".

Raritan, if you don't already have one of these prop nuts here is what you want.

The shaft is already drilled and tapped. I need a new prop and the boat is in storage so I am not sure what is on there now. I was trying to ascertain if it is a short or long hub shaft.

It is not going to matter what you buy 'cuz either will fit if it is drilled and tapped. Just get a two piece prop cone.

Buy an Ultra if you can find on.

Could someone post a couple of pics of a Volvo Ultra?

Is this an Ultra??

Not like any I have seen.
Is that a bronze prop?

I think the best bet on props for the old Volvo outdrives will be the Solas props that Big Grizz is working on getting set up to be sold here in America.
I have tested two of them on my X-18 and were very impressed with both.

Ted,

That is not an ultra. An ultra has a very small blade area.

Ted, that prop looks like a Hill (http://www.hillpropellers.com). Not as much bow lift as an Ultra, but they work well non-the-less . . . and are sometimes faster than an Ultra. The Hill prop is always worth a try.
