Seems to me, that with the 176 or so that were produced, there are a LOT accounted for here. Would it be worth trying to set up an account of them with known numbers?

Will someone break down the numbers for me? I have been told the year is 73 but what does the other numbers mean?

"562" 56th boat on the second month of the year (February "73)

"824" 82nd boat on the fouth month of the year (April 73)

"DMR181111274X" I have the 111th boat produced in the 12th month of 74

At least that is the way I see it. :D

I guess I do. It is a x-18 1976 red and white with blue pin stripes. I never thought of it as a bicentenial model but I guess that would explain colors. :bonk: Then again I have an excuse I wasn't alive for our nations bicentenial.

Hull Identification Number

All boats manufactured for sale must have a manufacturer’s serial number or Hull Identification Number (HIN). It is unique to your boat. HINs are typically engraved in the fiberglass or on a small metal plate attached to the transom.

Record your HIN number and put it in a place away from the boat. It can be useful if warranty problems arise or if your boat is lost or stolen.

The above diagram does not match the older serial numbers

This one is more complete. Obviously there are a few "discrepencies" as you can see by year and style of numbering and hull number relative to posted year. I think Poodle has a '73, I am really curious as to Alain Prevosts hull number under starboard rear deck, right side of tansom, Steve marrs number seems high for a '72, I wonder if Geoos is a '76, and not a '75, and Peter Hambling and Spencer Smiths must be 72's and not '73's...Hmmmm

Dax McDavid, got a hull number?

In autos that are built after September are the next model year, does that apply to baot aswell ?

Ricardo

P.S. What happens to the old Donzi without HIN ?

No, these numbers are im-pregnated into the gell in the mold at gel-coat time. That is why we see sequential numbering and many from Sept, Oct, Nov, dec etc.

My question is NOW, in the X's that have the DMR and CX identification, where are you guys getting your numbers from?

On a CX boat, is it C-X-18-?? or CX-18- ?? or CX18-?? and where do you find it and in what format?

Mine, DMR181111274X is molded into the underside of the upper right transom just under the seam to the deck/rubrail. Very plain to see. Where are all your numbers coming from especially the CX version? Again, if these numbers are in place on the upper right hull/transom joint, is this what you are using for a reference or are you using the registration?

Also interesting, is Gene Schmidt and Terrell Dicky have what appears to be the same hull number??? hmmmm :(

There is a lot more to this I am sure. I am also curious as to why some of these early boats share CX numbers and some DMR numbers in the same timeframe?

With the odd exception, between July and August of '73 it seems is the timeframe that they went to 3 digit hull id's # and 2 digit months.

Ok, I have counted 36 known ones now. We need some pics from the people that haven't included 'em and some ID info if possible. If anyone is reading this. :D

Where are the other 135 ???

I'll have to check the HIN on mine. I know it is a 1976, orange-red and white with blue pin-stripe. Does that make it a Bicentennial?:cistineb:

Lenny,

On the other 18 foot hulls built by Chisolm

numbers are C18-C32 for a Corsican, in this case my boat.

on the other two Corsican's I've been in this summer the hull number were also written C18- C**

On all 18's built during Chisolm history "that I have been under the decks of" the hull number is written on the plywood core of the dash, starboard or port, no consistency there.

there was also a number written on the backing plate for my bow eye , but I can't see any easy way to access that with a deck installed.

My boat also has a decal applied behind the back seat backrest, and I have seen this on all Corsicans.

hope this helps

Mario

Lenny from what I've learned from this site is the Coast Guard established the hull number requirements in 73. My CX number is on the starboard side, under dash, knee location on a foil sticker.

MINE IS A 1972 HULL NUMBER CX1816. I TALKED TO THE SECOND OWNER WHO ADVISED HE BOUGHT IT IN MARYLAND FROM THE ORIGINAL OWNER IN THE MID-SEVENTIES. HE WAS TOLD THEN THAT IT IS A 1972, AND ALL PAPERWORK SAYS '72. LOWER NUMBERS THAT ARE SUPPOSED 1973'S MUST HAVE BEEN ORIGINALLY SOLD IN 1973, EVEN THOUGH THEY HAD TO BE MANUFACTURED IN '72.
