Happy Thanksgiving Everyone,

Does anyone know for sure what year the 18 went to the round hull. I think I have narrowed it down to either 1969 models or 1970. I know the 1970's were round, but not sure of 1969 models. Also, does anyone know how many 3 hatch 1966 18's were made? I am trying to collect/document as much data so others with early models can identify what they may have.

Thanks, Trey

I Had A 1968 18' 2 + 3 Non Barrel "round Hull" Hull # 250. I Think You Have To Go By Hull #'s .

1969 Corsican C18 C32 round

Every Corsican that I have seen is round bottomed, and some were built in 1968

Good to see your back Chris! Hope you had a great trip!

Roy Farmer and I puttied the mold to make the round bottom in 1967 (We sold the company to the Chisholms in October 1967). We built both models until the pointy mold petered out. The new mold was round.

Brownie,
did you work with Tom Wilkey?

Yes. Tommy was one the smartest and nicest guys I ever was around.

What year did the pointed mold peter out?
What was the thinking that made you guys go to the round configuration?

I know Brownie knows a lot more about this than I do, but a little earlier than this, maybe '62-'64, C. Raymond Hunt went to round bottom from sharp.
The grand daddy of all this, Dr. Lindsey Lord, always had sharp keels and a little less deadrise.

I left the company to form Nova Marine in the winter of 1967. I think that the rounded keel has a gentler grip on the water, and is more consistent in a hard turn. The pointy bottom would occasionally break loose in a really hard turn, and throw your ass out. (not guessing)

maybe you can help me out here... feeble memory...

A good friend's family, in my early crazy and foggy years, had an outboard St. Tropez. Red/white w/ twin inline Merc's. Used to run out of Coral Reef Yacht Club in the Grove. Owner's name was Asa Groves, dunno if he was the original owner or not.... By chance, do you remember this boat? it was the ONLY one I ever saw, and I spent a few years in it in the early 70's, had a rear white/red lollypop bench seat... not sure what year it was built, but it WAS a nicely done and *dedicated twin on a splashwell* setup.

Allen,
Did they switch to the round bottom to allow for easier jet drive installation?

George, I think it was a design trend. Everyone went to round bottom at the same time. See above about C. Raymond Hunt. He was one of the pioneer Naval Architects in the industry to design deep vee hulls.
