View Full Version : Isn't this speed at bit optomistic for a GT21?

68 GPS ? I realize there has been some work done to the 351, and the drag from the windshield is gone, but, in 350 stock form weren't they a 55-57 MPH boat?

Lenny,
Best I've seen on my GT is 57.6 mph on gps. Mine has a 350 SBC (don't know exact hp but I guess around 300) mated to a TRS.
I would think that he is optimistic by around 10 to 15 mph.

Also, did they come with a 100 gal tank? That's a whole lot of fuel.

I don't buy that speed in the least.

My GT does mid 50s with a built up BBC 468, sans winshield, but with the additional drag of the Vdrive prop shaft/rudder.

I don't know whether it is possible to fit a 100 gallon tank in there- mine has a 60gallon tank.

I'd be surprised to see many GTs that are running better than 60 mph.

Maybe he was referring to the time when it was on the trailer behind his tow vehicle... on the freeway. I can't imagine a 100 gallons of fuel was in it either at the time. But it is a nice looking boat, regardless of how fast it will go. Now if it had a 496 Mag HO w/Bravo 1XR, and a full set of the Mercury SmartCraft instruments... and that new trick throttle control...

Maybe there is a reason why these pictues were taken in the dark?

That was what I was thinking.

You could be right. That's about how fast my GT was going when my trailer started passing me on the highway :cistineb:
