it's an SS... 110% sure

and an EARLY one at that... same upper housing as GENED's old SS... i have a later bare upper housing (according to S/N) sitting 10 feet from me which i am staring at and it is machined a skoash different...

700 bucks is a good deal.. even if it needs a little work on the inside...

Jim, is that the SS you ended up with?
mine looks EXACTLY like that one, which is a truee SS with the nostrils. That thing should be bought, upgrade the gears and bearings and it would be awesome for somebody...

Is anyone on here bidding on it? I don't want to run up the price, but if not, I may take a run at it.

as much as i'd LOVE to have a spare for the MADCOW's since we seem to have more than usual... the SS rebuild kinda killed the budget... so count me out....

JR - maybe i should detune

This one was a better deal, for condition & later year. The price was almost the same. :garfield:

I gave it a low dollar shot just for spare parts incase I ever needed anything for the one I have, but it closed yesterday after 4 O'clock EST, and I left for work shortly after 1 O'clock :banghead:

O'well some guy in Sweden needed it more for his Sea Ray Pachunga and was hot for it.

Rootsy,

A question for ya, :wrench:

Whats behind the long side plates on each side just in front of the cavitation plate on these S/S units? Is there any reason for someone to have used RTV silicon to seal them closed since there is a weep hole just under them. Or is that plate area separate and connected to the water pump intake passage?

Thanks,
Walt

What MOP said...

when she gets full of weeds.. which will happen... take those off to clean stuff out in there and get yourself a long flexible steel fishing leader and run it up the water ports in the nose cone to extract all of the weedage...

the side water pickups are handy in my setup... no clogs... never have cooling issues either.. don't quite understand why merc went low water like they did when they were installing this drive at standard X dim...

Thanks Guys!! :wavey:

Ok cool, so they are the water passage junction box covers for clean out purposes. I'll make up a kit using either .30 or .35 caliber bore plastic brush not brass and a flexi rod attachment. Maybe a coffee pot perculator stem cleaner would also work if its long enough. So I guess those covers should be sealed so theres no water pressure loss. Is that correct?

Gotta go dinner has just arrived!! :pretzel: :pretzel: :wavey: :wavey:
I'm starved,

Man, these things are starting to go cheap these days. I paid $1500 for mine with low hours a few years back, and I thought that was a great deal, but now were seeing them for under a grand? If you run a standard Alpha on your 16/18 Donzi, now would have been the right time to get off the fence and buy one.

Whats the difference is the SS drive? Would it fit my B4 Alpha Mercruser outdrive?
