Hi who is running Zone Alarm? I would like input on how well it works and if it causes any problems.

Hey Phil,
I use Zone Alarm on my computers. It's a little bit of a pain setting it up at first for access rights for different programs and computers on the network. After that it works very well.
I just installed XP service pack 2 and they have included a firewall upgrade. I haven't dug into it yet to see how well it works, but if it's from MS, it has to have some problems.
Hope this helps.

their are many versions of zone alarm depending on what your needs are ,i use zonealarm pro version 5.0.590.015 this one monitors your anti virus program, if its compatible ,which i use Mcafee pro and AVG.pro, and it lets you know if your virus defintions are out of date . Ive been happy using it a year now and its pretty simple to operate.
And i run the xp2 service pack update on a couple of my machines with no issues

Thanks for the input, I installed it last night and configured it. I am also planing on installing XP and the SP2, I have done a bit of poking around. One site suggests that a good third party AV and FW may just be worth sticking with, there are some serious pitfalls, SP1 must be installed first, issues with older software and spyware that got installed from web applications. It is a tough one but I did find some insight in the links below, It seem the best install is a clean one before any programs are added or you need to be careful. Matty I hope you can glean some help from the links, plus there is a ton more out there.

two thumbs up to zone alarm!!

It detected the president of one of the subsidiaries of a company I ran a few years ago trying to hack into my computer. in one month, it logged over 400 attempts from his IP. He is now the GM of a vibrator sales company. IMHO, he is better suited for his new position. :D

SP2 Firewall may as well just say Hey hackers, Come on in! If you want good protection, go with a hardware firewall, that means an actually physical box between your computer and your modem. Those of you on dial up need not worry, a software (program) firewall will be just fine but for those on cable, dsl, or other high speed the best way to go is with the hardware FW. Many of you probly already have one in the form of a router, which is the best way to go. You can get one for 50 bucks, i reccomend LinkSys. It will also give you the ability to split your connection to up to 4 or 8 computers. Also it lets you share files between these computers effortlessly. No more disks and wasted cds.
