Has anyone tried the Imco 2'' shorty on their 22 classic? Was it worth the cash?

Check with Catch22 (Jim Collins).
He said on a cooler day it's good for 2-3 mph.

I was the first to do it, about 4 years ago.

Yes IMHO it was worth it, I gained 4.5 MPH........(with a 500HP Mercury)
You will loose bow lift and it might develop a porpoise
at lower speeds.

It brings the boat up out the water, makes her fly flat, and I'm turning much larger props.

Can't tell you exactly what it did for me, because I tore the boat apart all at the same time, but I went from 68-70 to 79-81 on a good day.

Throws an awesome rooster too for those of us with blackhawk envy!

CigSS that is a beautiful setup. What's your top end... Low 80s I would guess. How much worse is the porpoise, I already battle this below 40mph with a stock Bravo I/502Mag/Mirage Plus 25". Must keep trim all the way down.

Imcos are cool, effective but pricey, they are one of the few ways to get speed without getting into the nice reliable stock engine. Don't forget to add in the cost of hydraulic steering if you don't already have it.

Cheers

Pismo, thanks.......
I no longer own the boat.
Top speed with the Imco shorty and the 500 was 83-85
depending on Air temp and water type. (fresh or salt)
With the 600SC it went up to 93.5 on GPS.

Porpoising was a big problem from 44-52 MPH unless it was trimmed down.
The prop was a 29 Mirage plus with the 500
Then had to go up with the 600 to a 31.

2-4 m.p.h, no warranty from Imco, and voids any Merc. warranty should anyone consider the swap in a new package. Good news, 78-80 m.p.h., (also with a labbed prop) at far less than the 500 e.f.i. and without the concerns of parts for the Blackhawk counterpart.

How does the Shorty effect planing?I have heard on some boats it really suffers and hooking becomes a problem too.

Not sure if the Imco, or the Hydromotive prop, is more the issue in my case.(planing) No "hooking" problem or "blowout" in turns etc, but just have to "feather" it when planing. Take it to about 3000 rpm's and let the boat catch up, before any more throttle. Ironically, the exact same traight with my Cigarette, maybe thats why I am used to it. Although it has a much higher X dem. than the Donzi w/ the Imco. There may be other alternatives, props, I just happened to have this combination. In stock form, I can post a g.p.s. reading (picture) of 78.8, sea level, with 3/4 fuel one person, 6" to 12" chop, with the 496 h.o.

Thanks for the imput Cigarette 30. Please post pics. I was looking at your 22 donzi in August but decided to purchase a 95 20 Cigarette on my side of the states.

For just plain bragging rights it is way cool, I have pic of Todd's from just after he got it done. Finally got to see it in person at the 1000 Islands, it is even more impressive in person. I am curious to see if anyone has tried any OH props on the IMCO? I tried one years back and picked up little top end, though prop technology has gotten a bit better since then.
