1983 circa serial numbers

I've been thinking about picking up a boat advertised as a 1983 Donzi, however the serial # starts with an "F."

I'm thinking it's really a Formula??? All of the 1983's I've seen start with "DMR." What are your thoughts?

Nate, don't know if this will help, but here is a datavase search tool from the USCG page that allows you to search by MIC (manufact Id code). MIC Search (http://www.uscgboating.org/recalls/mic_database.htm)

On a semi related note, does anyone know if there is an online database to find out boat histories by HIN (hull ID #)?
