Bob I am running a 750 DP on the 350, its fine except if you have to punch it. It bogs at lower RPM takes a little getting used to. The 650 as many have said is better for all around use. Hmm maybe some good carb secrets will emerge!

IMO a air gap intake and a mech sec. 750 Holley from AED Performance. They modify a Holley by removing the choke tower and other mods. Have not adj. mine yet smooth power. Before carb is shipped it is pre-ran and top performing out of the box.

I'm running an Edelbrock 650 carb and a Performer EPS intake. From day one I have had no issues, just smooth operation.

The Performer EPS is a great intake -- it helps eliminate the bogs that you commonly get with the larger intake/carb setups. I have a Performer EPS on my Formula, and it has just a much low-end power as the stock merc intake, only with better top-end and midrange.

i agree i put the performer carb and intake on my 4.3 v6 and got alot more top end without any loss of lowend torque.

Dualy,

is this motor basically stock? if not what else is done to it... and what do you hope to accomplish?

I have the same vintage engine as yours. I went to Power Source Engines in Fox Lake. I told Ron I wanted an upgrade on power but still wanted reliability for skiing and just putting around. He set me up witha a cam, alum. intake and recommended a carb. I bought the cam and intake but due to finances I passed on the carb. Low end torque is greatly improved as is all round performance. It even seems to get better gas milage and the price was very reasonable. If you have any more questions give me a call. Greg

Don't overlook the Rochester carb. I love em'. I lot of people don't like them because they can be more difficult to set up than other types. I've run a Holley 650 DP, Carter Competition 625 and the Rochester. The Rochester was the best by far. With the small primaries, the fuel economy is superior and with the 4 barrels opened, performance is as good as any 650-750.
For an intake, stay with a dual plane. Check the RPM range of it before buying. Determine your boats operating (RPM) range and go from there. Remember, most boats don't rev as high as a car, so purchase accordingly.

Yeller's on top of it! Go to the nearest junk yard and get a Quadra Jet for 25 bucks and hold on. On my 350's and 383 I ran both holley and Q-jets. There wasn't any comparison between the two. The q-jet gets better mileage and has super crisp response and never bogged.

I forgot to mention that I kept the original Q-jet carb, with a fresh rebuild. Motor didn't miss a beat all summer.

T Qjet is a very good all around carb and as stated with the mini primaries it sips fuel at cruise, but whne you stand on it and the man hole covers open up it runs as hard as any other. To me thay have been a lot less troublesome than most others.

I think the q jet for the bbc is the same carb with different jets or rods in it. I bought a BBC Q jet for the 350 I built.
