The below tank replaced the steel tank in my 1966 16' during 1986. Last spring, I ordered another sending unit since it had not worked since tank replacement. After reading several threads, I became concerned about corrosion in a confined space without the presence of oxygen. Reluctancy, I cut through the foam and finally pulled the tank--good thing I did! Many pitts were found which were close to making their way through . The foam was saturated in gas
and this could have been the result of the filler hose slipping off years ago or seepage from pitts? Bottom line, aluminum tanks have a 10 year life span in my opinion. Many of us are lucky beyond our imagination as this has become a common problem. Be aware!!

What product did you re-core the deck perimeter in?

The life of an aluminium tank is about 10 yrs, IMHO. It can be extended by painting it.

Lenny,

Divinycell was used for the deck core. The balsa became delaminated making the deck soft where it could not be walked on.
