I am looking for a 22zx and don't know if I should be looking at big block power or a small block. I would like to know if any can tell why Donzi derated the boat to a max of 300hp? Is there any things important about the 22zx that I need to know before i buy one.
Thanks Brad

I was thinking the same thing. I am preety sure they got rid of the 454, because the boat wasnt safe with the big block and the step. I would prefer the Big Block, for times when you want the extra power, but check insurance, I am sure it will be more $$$ than the 350Mag.

If the money was the same, I'd go big block. I'm sure it would be a damn fun boat to drive even with the small block.

Do a search on 22zx...

If memory serves me correctly I remember hearing speed numbers of 61-65 with a 350 and 24 pitch prop (the prop being an important factor)

68mph with a 454 and 80mph with a 7.4

None of this is from my own experience or deemed accurate other than a summation of prior posts on this topic.

454 = 7.4. The 80mph boat was supercharged.

Brad, there is a 22zx for sale outside of Toronto. They are asking $28000 canadian, it is the same graphic package as Frank C's 26zx. The only drawback is that it is a 350/alpha combo, but at that price you could you could run it for a year, spend $10000 in upgrades over the winter, (bravo/whipple) and still be well under $30000 us.......

....not that I haven't thought about it or anything...

Big Block, IMO, you will want the power. I would lean towards the Classic 22 if it were me , but it is not me so I'll just shut-up. If you haven;t brought a boat into the Country before through the border be sure to email me prior to you doing this. I will save you a few headaches. :yes:

P.S. you will be travelling to get one of these pups to be sure. If you find something in Michigan/Great Lakes area I have a half full Tractor Trailer you could put it on and get it to Blaine, Wash.

First post on this site....just found it. Got a 496 on a 22ZX with labbed 24 Hydro 4 blade. Goes great straight, but I'm still cleaning my drawers from the time I was called a show off for buzzing the marina and turned the wheel too hard....60 MPH 180:umbrella:

'fester,... :D , that is why I asked stepped or no step. Obviously you learned that important lesson, the rest will be easier and hopefully you do your own wash... :)

That is the learning curve that you just tri-sected but you missed a few classes. Now you have graduated. :yes: The tab and trim location, never forget...

p.s. The one in Kirkland by you, (obviously not yours' by the numbers) probably had a similar thing happen with the 502 but doesn't have a sense of humour... :eek:

Last night in the chat room we figured out why the 22zx I posted above is $20,000 US. It's busted. Check out the pics, the swim platform is damn near tore off :eek:
