OK. Seriously. This stuff keeps turning up on top of my gas tank in the 18. Every now and then I open the access cover in front of the floor cooler to inspect the fuel sending unit and pickup and I find large chunks of this stuff rattling around on top of the tank. It looks like some kind of bondo. It was obviously a liquid at one point that used some sort of hardener. The material itself is really "sandy" but still a solid. When you rub it, sand comes off like when you rub a sand dollar. I'm curious as to what it is and what it's used for in the boat. Any more guesses?

Petrified turds from when you scare the sh*t out of your passengers by submarining your boat?

Gas tank mounting foam like material. I have the same thing only in very small chunks.

I've got the same stuff all over my cooler, but my foam was from training beers, not gas tank foam.
BTW foamed beers break down after about 12 hours in a cooler, not a real safe way to keep your beer in place in a cooler.

Sorry Randy, I have no clue, could it be floatation foam coming off of the bottom/top of the floor...

Looks like a mixture of resin and filler used to bond components together . . .

how large are those chunks, as we have no idea the scale of the cloth pattern . . .

foam for tank installation is much more like a hard sponge in porosity

Lemon meringue droppings from the pie elves that live in your bilge.

I'll place my bet that it's rocks of crack cocaine. Did your boat come from Colombia????

Randy when I was cleaning out the 22 I found a few peices like that, in mine it was the extra foam that pushed up out of the sides of the tank. I kicked a little more off when I crawled in to change my tow eye last week.

Maybe it is dried up SPEED WAX ? Actually , it looks like the foam around the fuel tank ....

I think the stuff I'm finding is the pinkey / orangey stuff on either side of the tank in this pic.

It's not foam. I can feel the foam and if you push it with your finger it'll dent. This stuff is hard. It must be some sort of "filler" . For what, I don't know. Anyone know what the "filler" in the pic is used for? What's it's purpose in life?

Could it be flotation filler someone installed before you bought the boat???ed

Ranman

I don't think it's flotation cause it's pretty dense and heavy. There are actually two big flotation blocks infront of the driver and passenger footwells on either side of the ski locker. Again, this foam will dent if poked with a finger, but not this hard stuff.

Where's Ted or Bryant when you need them???

Randy, its called bonding putty. Its a mixture of resin and
micro balloons. Its is used to fill areas and stiffen up the hull.
I think the brand name is Rjay. Also used to fill in a 90 degree
joint......such as where a stringer or bulkhead meets the bottom..........and make the angle less........say 45 degrees so that the glass will lay down easier during lay up.

Ted,

You wouldn't recall it being a #31 Boat and bonding putty by Adtech Plastic Systems, would you. If you don't mind and have the time, give me a ring at the office tomorrow, I still have a couple of quick questions for you. Thanks
