My neighbor is a real motor head. He has been working on a 23' 1987, NOVA Wellcraft. He just dropped in a "worked" 350 Magnum. He wanted me to ask: What prop should he be running? He turning 5400 rpms, and has an Alpha 1 drive. It currently has a 14 inch dia 21 pitch prop. He thinks he was hitting 49 - 52 mph. What prop should he try next?

He can go up a size with the prop to a 23 stainless and maybe gain 2-3 mph. He's running a bit high on the RPMs. I don't advise anyone to try and push a 23 foot, deep-vee boat with an Alpha 1 though.

i think in a boat that size running a 21 inch prop turning 5400 the boat should be running more in the mid to upper 50's. he must have a built an incredably powerful small block. i would make sure my tachometer and speedometer where accurate if they where you could easily move up to a 23 pitch maybe a 25.
