Aqua power makes some nice silicone sets in 8mm with nice quality boots (usually yellow leads) We have used them in our shop on many high perf boats that are on a budget with very good results.. they usually run $40-60.00 call me if you are interested I should still be able to get them 570-639-2628 Jamie.. :lightning

the instructions for the mallory unilite electronic pick up conversion specified NOT to use stainless (and some other type spiral) wires. the wrong type of wires is supposed to cause a pre-mature death of the module.

what type of system are you going to run?

I used Taylor Made.

I did not know of the potential problem with the use spiral wound wires with a Mallory Unilite module. I have that combination but have not had a problem. I've been using that setup for 15 years and over 1000 hours. The Unilite module was existing, otherwise I may have reconsidered the choice of wires, if I was the installer. At this point though, I probably will not worry about it.

i would have to dig up the instructions on what other particular core type was a no-no with the unilite module.

stainless stuck in my mind, because that was what i was using at the time. after looking it up, solid copper was the other type. most boats i look at have stainless.

from century performance (http://www.centuryperformance.com/mallory/unitest.asp) , they ( century ar mallory ) recommend carbon core wires to use with the unilite pick-up.

Thank you Jamie!
Folks, the specs on these really fit the bill AND the budget!
Also they look really good!
Jamie does a great job on the phone, and was very helpful to source some additional items. :yippie:

I think Mallory, MSD, Crane and others specify not to use stainless-steel or other soild core wires. Always use use a resistor type (spiral core, etc) wire to reduce RFI. Interference from solid-core wires can trick electronic ignition systems causing false firing signals which can cause the death of your engine from pre-ignition.

Good wires that are reasonably priced are Taylor, MSD, and a few others. I'm running Mallory spiral-core wires on my Magnum and Summit house-brand spiral-core wires on my 383 in my X-18.

Magnecor (http://www.magnecor.com/) makes the very best wires, but they are very pricey. Magnecor's website has everthing you would ever need or want to know about plug wires and the some without a bunch marketing hype.
