Ran the 22 today for the first time when I got back to the dock I noticed the transom was a mess from the spray back from the rubber exhaust flaps. Do you guys think a 22 needs externals when it has internal flaps, my pipes are pretty high with the SB plus My headers are tall just a fraction from hitting the hatch.

I have been running Stainless Marine with internal flappers only for 3 years and they work great.

My internal flappers blew off long ago, so I went with external.

I never had externals at all, only internals, which blew out 14 years, or 1200 hours ago. I've never had a problem with water. I do though have tall risers which are near the front of the engine compartment so the water has a long way to travel before it can cause trouble.

Thanks for the input, I ran it today sans flappers transom stayed clean. Since my tips have internals and are near new I will leave the flaps of, my keep them aboard to slip on if I anchor in rough water my luck I'll drive and leave them behind.
