sounds about bang on. Perhaps clean up your props (razor leading edge) and you might see 80mph. I assume you are running it with the 31p props?

what's your rpm pinned?

Throw on a Whipple and you'll see close to 90mph.

rpms ??? i think around 4900-5000 was afraid to look! you really need a gps to get the outdrive trimed right on this boat. yes they are31"s razor the leading edge, is this something i could do or do i need to take them back to the prop shop? thanks

I would recommend that you do not "razor the leading edge" on Blackhawk Props. Merc recommends that the props have a rounded edge to diminish the chance of nicks. Nicks on a surfacing prop will quickly lead to cracks. You BH Props should be inspected before every run for nicks.

no no on the razor, greg are these numbers close to your boat????

Robert,
Drop that ice and the cases and you should be a bit closer to 80 if conditions are just right. Never drop the girl!!!

I've only run the 31's as I can pull 5100 with them. Don't need more PRM.
Next thing will be the 280 Planes.

Gero,

I got 80.1 GPS, on a 60 degree day with a nice windblown chop.

greg were you full of full??? how much will water temp affect mph?

Greg Maier

I probably had 1/4 tank of fuel. I don't know about water temperature, but air temperature will definitely affect your top speed. Engines make more horespower in cooler ambient temperatures. It is the same principal as putting an intercooler on a blower motor.

thank you g.m

Tuxedo,

I'm a Computer Security guy, not a Mechanical Engineer. But, I would think that the the intercooler cools the charge

1. to keep it from prematurely detonating, and
2. as a by-product of cooling it, gets a denser charge then it would get if it wasn't cooled.

Tuxedo,

I thought the intercooler sat right underneath the supercharger and cooled the compressed air as it exited the supercharger. I may be wrong. Hopefully one of the engineers on here will rescue me, because I don't know anythiing more about it than that......

sorry, all i wanted was a bench mark to by to see how my boat was running compared to other b/h"s

See what you started! :biggrin.:

Sounds like your running good. My best speed was 78.6 mph and I've only seen it once. I'm hoping that I will be running 80+ consistantly next year.

Are you in salt or fresh water?

So which one of you BH nuts is going to try some of those Hoss props out of Oklahoma and break 80 bone stock?

To think I had to install a 500, shortie, and steering just to get by you guys!

Todd, are you talking about his custom props?

Cuda,

No, the chop was coming at me. I only did the top speed run in one direction. I wasn't going to push my luck.

Greg,

Gave some more thought to it and realized you were correct. I pulled my posts so as not to potentially mislead anyone.
