But we had fun trying.

For those who don't know, this year Lake St. Clair boaters attempted to break the Guiness World Record for the most boats rafted together in a fresh water lake. The record is currently held by Lake Norman, NC with 1453 boats set just a few weeks ago. Lake Norman recently upped their own record from 944.

While our first attempt failed as the rules state the raft must be in a continuous line, the turnout for the LSC event was well in excess of 2000 boats. The main line in the pics actually had 1457 boats, but since the registration forms could not be exactly identified (since they were mixed in with boat registrations from the 2nd longest line in the pic), neither actually counted. I wanted to share the pics as they are rather impressive none the less.

For anyone who has boated on LSC, if you know about the "gauntlet", this was easily the longest one ever.

See more at www.lakestclairraft.com

P.S. Dork, the record is safe at Lake Norman for another year, but you can bet we won't make that mistake again.

The first pic is the Lake Norman 2004 record breaking raft. The following two pics are of the Lake St. Clair attempt.

For at least one more year, big undertaking and organization needed. With the number of boats registered in MI, it should be simple for ya'll.

Looks to me like both lakes had a whole bunch of boats just mingling around instead of being in the raft lines? Looks like LSC needs some Allllllllll Niiiiigggghhhhttttt Looooonnnggg organizing!

Be there bright and early, anchor start boat. Organizer moves to the next boat that rafts along side, anchors and collects needed data. Once collected, moves to the next boat rafting up in the line and so on and so on. If you can keep him from excepting beers from everyone, you might actually be able to set and record that record!

Could you image a raft up from Muscamut all the way to Detroit? What an overhead that would be for the local and international news :D

One of the big problems was that everyone wanted to be in front or (or at least near) the Zman since that's where the action was. The late comers didn't want to tie up so far away from the crowd. They'll get it figured out for next year and set a record that will stand for a while.

Greg, Maybe you should come up for the event next year. We'd be happy to host a good ol Lake Norman boy.

Apparantly, the Lake norman.com boat (a Donzi) was also at the LSC event.

Rather than playing over those giant speakers which only go so far anyways he should broadcast over radio so everyone can tune and play synchronized off their boat stereos.

...all on one anchor, that is. That's quite a hook. Danforth, perhaps?
