While scrounging used parts yesterday at Victory Marine, I spied this 22 classic. I am going to locate the owner and try to bring them into the fold. This is my idea of my perfect 22 Classic. I'd almost trade the big boat for this one in a heartbeat!

Could this be the new "fastest 22" ?

Yea baby!! Its cool!! I hope they plan on adding external steering, and doing away with that gilmer drive pulley.... :eek!:

Ted, your right about that belt.... that thing comes loose at 5000+ and there will be a ton of collateral damage...

I'd love to hear that thing idling in the water with the Q/Q closed..

What would be the proper pulley ?

A ribbed (smooth) type just like all the serpentine belt pulley
from Mercruiser. Also the only USCG legal blower style.

Allows for belt slippage during a backfire, eliminating the (sneeze valve) so no air/fuel sprays into the bilge.

off topic but.... years back, early 70's, a guy down here had a 6-71 blower on a small block, in a '62 Vette. It sneezed one time at high rpm, broke the belt, and the belt literally sawed itself through the hood, and cracked both front fenders, taking BIG chunks out of the fenders. :banghead: that boat is a bit stronger, but it could break those fuel lines and fuel filter assembly faster than a sledgehammer could.

WOW!! I bet if it got a hold of any body parts it would seriously injure or kill someone!!

Ted's old boat and the blown SE #2 are still the 22 Kings in my mind. Nice motor in this one but the hull needs some upgrades.

On a side note, my dad is supposed to be asking Donzi today if they will build us a 22C with a 525 for a potential customer. What do you think they will say? We're leaning towards, NO, thinking that Donzi will be too concerned about liability. This should be interesting. We'll never know though unless we ask.

You see a lot of gilmer drive systems on the bigger boats though. This one appears to be a 8mm drive belt. Why couldn"t you install a belt guard & plumb the backfire relief valve through transom?

[QUOTE=RickS]Ted's old boat and the blown SE #2 are still the 22 Kings in my mind.
I saw Teds 22 last year at the Sarasota Rally and I still think that it is the nicest and the best set up Donzi 22 I've seen. When my 22 grows up it wants to be just like Ted's, only one BIG problem. The Wife.  Can't get that HP 600 out of my mind. Thanks Ted. It's all your fault.

I got an offer I could not refuse.....
It was too small for us to use around here.
I miss my 33ZX.....I should not have sold that!

You guys are killing me with all this 22 talk and freakin 90-MPH videos. I'm stuck here at work and can't find anyone willing to play hooky and go to the lake this week. My boat has been sitting in the same spot for three weeks. :bawling:

Ted, is your old boat still for sale? I thought it was on boattrader but can't find it. I was going to refer someone in TX to it.

Byron,

I have witnessed Bateman run 78 with his Blackhawk/502 setup. I think most of the BH boats will run 76-78 with a driver that has a clue.

I saw Ted's boat with a 500HP carb with a Mirage 29 run 79-80 at Eufala two years ago.

Dan is running 78 at 4800 with his "warmed" over 500EFI.
Much more left.

I imagine Rick will see 82-83 with his setup, when he gets his oil cooler situation sorted out. He has got to be in the 550hp range.

You have seen my boat run with the stock 500EFI. It will do 76-78 with the Hydro Quad 4 27 and 28s. My Mirage 29 labbed has done 79-81. I got 81 once out of the Quad 4 27 last fall, just me in the boat, low fuel, and great air on the river.

So you now have the targets. I would think your skunk works this winter could produce a NA motor in the 600HP range that would put you in mid-80s with the shortie.

Don't forget about our boat here out west. I bet we have some of the best air. Fall and Spring will be perfect with cool, dry, dense air. If we could just get to sealevel. Havasu at 400' will be as close as it gets unless we go to CA. The problem right now is that Havasu is 115 degrees.

On a side note, a friend in TX called on Ted's old HP600SC boat. The used car salesman told him it had been traded in on car and they were having trouble getting rid of it. He was also told it would do 130-MPH. :eek!: Someone needs to pick up this boat and save it before some hack gets ahold of it. I bet you could get it for less than the $47K asking price.

Todd,

Thanks! I have been curious!! Skunkworks will be in full action over the winter! I'm going to try and stay with a standard lower. It stays hooked up a little better. I like the top end number it produces but I also like to run hard in the rough stuff!

Better shine that Mirage up baby!!!;)

Thanks!

Also Mr X (Ted) whom I respect and have had nothing but good dealings with.

I heard from Victory's Mr. Weir that they offered to to give you a credit for what money you were out (700.00), provided that you could show a cancelled check or some other proof that they could use for their records. I posted this along with what was Victory Marine's side of the story on your long victory thread and asked if this was true. Instead of posting an answer, you deleted the entire thread. What's with that?

You folks have to back these comments up with facts!
If you think I am taking sides here I am not. If I were taking sides, I would just delete your posts.
