How does the 4.3 sound with through-hull exhaust? My father was thinking about having his converted. It is something about the envy over the sound of my 502!

I am interested in this also. Where is your father going to get it converted? Do you know much is the estimate?

Anything is better than thru the hub.

There is a video with sound of a V6 in the archives, may take some hunting to find it.

LB,
I think that would be Crackerjack's 16 with the thru-hull setup. Maybe he, or his son SpeedRacer can direct you to it.

Wiltok: I have a guy here in Louisville that does some custom work. I don't have it priced yet as we are considering what type of cut-out to use. I have seen an article on these conversions in Hot Boat or some other publication. It does not look like a big deal. I can fax you a copy of if you are interested.

Others: I will have to sample the videos when I get back to my office. My current connection is too slow. Thanks for the feedback

Hope dear old dad doesn't have high hopes. One can dress up a sow in a g-string, put her on stage and get her to shake her tits (all ten of them) but, guess what? She's not a stripper..... she's still a pig!!!

There is no device, short of a tape player and big speakers, that can make a 4.3 sound like a 502. Tell Pa to save his money!!

I know that. He will probably convert to a SB V-8 once the engine wears out. But there is no reason to deal with the hub until that time. It will not be a big expense.

See if you can locate them on 24 1/2" centers and I can give you the vertical location off of hull bottom too if you like. If you get them to work there then when the 350 shows up it will be a straight change-over without glassing up the transom.

I'm not positive on Lenny's measurements, but it's a good idea. Add some mufflers at the same time. A V6 with mufflers sounds purty cool.. :boat:

Those are the kind of answers I was looking for.

Anyway it sounds cool at idiol and while driving it, but sounds like an air plane from on shore or other boats...

Muffler's to would help...

V-8 V-8 V-8  Not that's an idea!

Those are his real hobby. He really digs that sound. He has a large supercharged radial in one of his planes. It sounds awesome. It would sound kind of different in a boat. I will try to encourage him to switch to a V-8 before he gets too comfortable with that sound.

Does anyone know how well a OMC Cobra will handle a 350? He will run WOT on occassion but when it comes to acceleration he tends to baby his equipment.

shouldn't be any issue what so ever, unless he gets crazy inside of the 350...
