I just bought a 95 16 White with red stripe down the center. The stripe is quite faded. Not chalky just faded. The white looks new. What is the best way to restore the red finish. Per the factory it is gel coated. The factory said to try fiberglase restorer. I tried white rubbing compound with some improvment but far from acceptable. Any suggestions would be appreciated. BTW what kind of wax do you all reccomend?
Thanks

AMEN to 3M Part No. 09005 Marine Fiberglass Restorer and Wax. Follow the instructions, use Terry Towels(Walmart sells them by the Pack), and watch your gelcoat shine. Worked extremely well on my 96 22' Classic. :cool!:

You may need to resort to color sanding aka wet sanding. I'm in the process now of color sanding. I tried the restorer/wax but did not get the results i was wanting. Here is a thread from a previous discussion. I have tried many other things as well - On/Off acid, compounds, compound+wax all in one, heavy grit compound.

Ranman,

Actually tried it both ways. First by hand then using an orbital buffer. I don't think the PO took care of it very well. I removed the old name of the boat and there was a big difference in color. Now after sanding one side with 2000 grit, compound then wax it looks really good. I can still see the old name(tweedy), but not as much. Seems there is still work to do.
