I own a 2000 22 zx all stock 350 mag mpi 300 hp. with a gen 2 drive. The prop is a 22p bravo one four blade, the rpmis just over 5k and top speed was 56.8 on my GPS Does these numbers seem right , does anyone know the speed of a 22 classic with a small block. Thanks Jeff

What is your gear ratio on the outdrive? There will also be a sticker on the motor telling you what your wot is. Also should have your gear ratio. Check your manual for the locations. Report back

Sounds a bit on the low side to me. I would say something isn't right. Assuming you have a 1.5:1 drive (you can find the ratio on the side of the drive) we can figure the following:

Your Theoretical Speed = 5000RPM X 22P / 1.5 Ratio X 1056 = 110000/1584 = 69.44MPH.

If your RPM's are accurate and we conservativly throw in 12% prop slip, you'd be running 61.1MPH. If you were really dialed in on the prop and you had 9% slip, you'd be at 63.2MPH. These speeds are pretty much the norm for a 22ZX with a MAG 350 Alpha setup.

Given the data you're reporting, your prop slip is at 18.2% which is horrible for a step hull ZX.

Are you sure your RPM's arent lower than 5000? Are you trimming the drive up to get max speed or are you leaving is all the way down?

I have a 2000 22ZX with a 350 Mag MPI (300 hP). I have the 24p 4 blade bravo prop and run low to mid 60's. The boat was delivered with the 22p prop and that prop didn't work well for me at all. I suggest trying a different prop...

My dad has 22zx with 454 MPI, and the 4 blade Bravo 1 prop it came with. It says it does about 60 on speedo. Im guessing that is a little off but i dont know by how much and in which direction. :us-texas:

my '99 22zx, 350 MPI, alpha1 hits 60mph with a 23P 3 blade, Mirage Plus, it's a little slower, but handles better with my 24P,4 blade bravo.

Zinger, change the prop to a 24 Pitchyou are probably hitting the rev limiter and cant get the proper trim to get max speed with a 22 Pitch, You should be running about 61 to 63mph

Seems the prop may solve the problem. I am running a 2000 ZX with 350 MAG MPI, Alpha One drive and 4 Blade 24 pitch Bravo prop. She will run 63.9 @ 5200 rpm with a max speed of 65.5 GPS verified on any given day with little less than 1/2 a tank. 60-61 with a full tank.
