Would A 1997 Lower Bravo 1 Off A 1997 18 Classic Fit Lower 1988 Bravo 1 From A 1988 22 Classic ? Also Is There Any Differance In Gear Ratio To Be Concerned With ? One More Thing Can I Change This My Self Or Do I Need Special Tools ?

Hi Don,

I just split my alpha. It only required a 5/8 wrench, rubber hammer and 2 allen wrenches. The only thing the book said to be careful of when putting back together were the 2 o-rings for the oil passages and to make sure they were properly seated.

I would defiantly get a manual for reference.

Don, when I removed the lower unit all it required was a 5/8 open end wrench. The unit just drops out and is very easy to reassemble. Has anybody responded as to whether a 1997 Bravo lower unit is the same as a 1988 Bravo when it comes to swapping lower units?

How Come It Shows Bravo 1 11 111 1988-1995 Separate From Bravo 1 11 111 Separate 1996-1998 ? Or Am I Missing Something ? Help !

OK, you're right, I'm making an assumption.
However, the shafts and seals are the same, the general configuration is the same, i.e. pins, bolts etc. So I'm assuming the differences are minor details, like one has a drain plug on the bullet and the other doesn't. Both housings are superseded from 1656-8866A17. I don't see any differences in the part numbers , where it counts, that would keep you from assembling it. See my point? If you got a good deal, I would do it.

Actually on taking a second glance, there seem to be some running changes in the earlier series. So you would have to look at two parts, #3 & #3A, and there two different # 4's. It would probably fit if you had a machinist look at the mating surfaces of these two areas.
